Hillary Clinton says 'gutsiest' thing she ever did was stay married

Hillary Clinton says the "gutsiest" thing she ever did in her personal life was not leaving her husband.

"I think the gutsiest thing I've ever done — well, personally — make the decision to stay in my marriage," Clinton said Tuesday during a joint interview alongside her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, with "Good Morning America's" Amy Robach.

"Publicly, politically, run for president," Clinton, 71, continued. "And keep going. Just get up every day and keep going."

The former secretary of State and former President Bill Clinton tied the knot in 1975.

The ex-commander in chief's affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky in the 1990's ignited a media firestorm, and put the Clintons' marriage in the spotlight.

"I didn't know whether our marriage could — or should — survive such a stinging betrayal, but I knew I had to work through my feelings carefully, on my own timetable," Hillary Clinton wrote in her 2003 memoir, "Living History." She wrote at the time that staying with her husband was one of "the most difficult decisions I have made in my life."

She did what she thought best in spite of it being very hard. She didn’t act on impulse. She didn’t do crazy, destructive things or try to be vindictive in a way that would harm others.

I have no idea how they worked things out. But I do know she’d have made a hell of a leader.

we would be in if this wise, brilliant, morally serious woman who has dedicated her life to finding solutions for the common good had taken her rightful place in the White House, as voted for by the majority of Americans.

Hillary's life, her marriage and family, have been part of the public gossip scene for so long that it's important to remember she's a private person. Very few married women can say they haven't dealt with wandering husband problems, but most women keep their worries and sorrows in private. Hillary never could do that.

It makes her human after all. I admire her courage, strength and leadership more because of it. Another exemplary woman comes to mind: Eleanor Roosevelt.

...husband exposed on the national stage as a horn dog must have been agonizing. She was criticized for not dumping him. Many of us probably would have. In their own odd way, I do think the Clintons love each other.

I think she should be respected for not bailing during what had to surely be the “for worse” part of “for better, for worse.”

It continues to puzzle me that’d the evangelicals and “party of family values” folks diss Hillary for staying married, yet have no problem with thrice-married, serial philanderer Trump.

One of the staff nurses at my office didn’t vote for HRC because she didn’t divorce Bill. She is divorced herself (I don’t know why), and I wanted to ask her how she would feel if someone did not choose her for a job because of something her husband did.
