San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board has never called for impeachment hearings, until now.

If reported earlier, I've missed it - 09/26/19

Editorial: Trump impeachment probe needed to draw a line on what presidents can, can’t do

As Donald Trump built up momentum in his bid to become president in 2015 and 2016, Tony Schwartz — the ghostwriter of “The Art of the Deal,” the 1987 best-seller that helped make Trump a national celebrity — was racked by guilt. After spending 18 months for the book with the bellicose real-estate developer, listening in on his conversations and negotiations, Schwartz had grown appalled.

“More than anyone else I have ever met, Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true,” Schwartz told The New Yorker in 2016. He was mortified Trump would win because he knew Trump wouldn’t change.

Three years later, this insight has been confirmed anew after a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Amazingly, Trump somehow believed that his release of two unclassified and now widely read documents — a transcript of his July 25 conversation with Zelensky and a related whistle-blower complaint by an unnamed intelligence official who wondered if Trump was withholding $391 million in military aid from the Ukraine until it provided dirt on political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden — showed his behavior was “perfect.”

While critical of Trump, The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board has never previously called for impeachment hearings. Given the inevitability of an acquittal by the GOP-controlled Senate, and the lack of public support, such hearings seemed futile, especially with an election so soon. This time, the gravity of Trump’s actions demand investigation. - San Diego Union-Tribune

While they say they've been critical of tRump, I've only known the SDUT to be a conservative leaning rag that has always favored republicans and urinated on democrats about anything and everything, so I find this slant hard to believe. But it's good to have their backing.

But the more media outlets that call for the impeachment inquiry to proceed, the better. The steady drumbeat and the increasing volume of the chorus of voices will be harder to ignore or dismiss.
