Is anyone else here getting scared?

I'm delighted that we started impeachment but Trump is so unglued right now. I'm not sure what's bugging me but he scares me. He could make up shit about all of our candidates and leaders and chaos reigns.

I probably have reason to fear him, but I do. Maybe I just need to turn off the news (which I've watched non stop for a week).

Or rather, some numbers of comfort. 77,740. We had a crap candidate, who ran a crap campaign, and Trump still only won by less than 80k votes spread across MI, WI, and PA.

Here is another number. 8.4 Million. That’s the number of Obama 2012 voters who switched to Trump in 2016.

There is no way more than half of those will vote for Trump again. No way.

So, that’s why I’m not too worried. Plus, rule of law, the constitution, etc. etc.

There's so much going on and much of it is beyond our personal power to impact. Do what you can as a citizen; make a few calls, compose an email.

Do what you can as a member of a civil society. Be decent and kind to others, especially those who have extra reason to fear being marginalized.

In the midst of all that, however, remember to do what you can for yourself. If too much media content is messing with your psyche, take a break. Practice self-care. Seek out the small joys of life. Your peace of mind is too precious to give away to anybody.

Ilan Omar said on Full Frontal the other day that (and I'm paraphrasing) just because she's living rent-free in the right-wingers' heads, she doesn't have to let them live rent-free in her own.

Think of every moment of happiness, peace, kindness and optimism as a victory over those who would tear you down. They say that living well is the best revenge. I'm sure that it doesn't involve beaucoup bucks, because so many on the Right have money but peace, joy and optimism seem beyond their reach.

More and more I'm seeing that what really binds this society together is consumerism and mindless entertainment blather- including politics. Politics itself isn't even taken all that seriously. It's all just part of the "show," I'm not at all concerned something really bad could happen. At the end of the day, no matter what happens politically, people are going to go home to their fast food and their TV's, and life will go on.

Even though pre-election polls, and exit polls dispute it. Even though there is wide-spread reportings of intimidation at the polling stations, and/or disappearing votes, voting machine flips, etc etc...

We should be asking ourselves what would WE do? Then it would US against the U.S. military and police forces. I can see this happening, and then these militias would be even more pumped to help quell any "disturbance". The new brown shirts to weed out the local "libtards" in their county.

But I was just curious, would WE rise up that time? Or meekly accept another four years of Trump fascism?

Because it seems to me that Mitch, Lindsay, and others that in the past may have seemed moderate, will see this as they have to be 'all in', with the cheating, trolling, suppression laws, and what I think is their ace in the hole: hacking voting machines to make sure of victory. I am uneasy at their seemingly arrogant lack of concern with winning. I suspect that technology has only gotten better, and that includes masking code, even so far as to print out a voting receipt for a D while still have the machine flip it for an R. These voting machines are owned by Republican supporters. Who knows what Mitch has promised them if they deliver?

Fri Oct 4, 2019, 08:16 AM
Oct 2019

For a lot of reasons, but the main ones are:

We are fighting something that is fighting for its life.
This administration has co-opted the DOJ, the State Department and large portions of the judicial branch.
A third of the population doesn't understand or doesn't care what is happening.
The executive branch has come close to shutting down the oversight function of the legislative branch.
One of the good guys, SDNY, may be folding on us.

Try not to look at Twitter. Yesterday I went there to tweet to the Hill to fire John Solomon. Examining tweets about Solomon, I saw a ton of trumpies or trolls thanking him for explaining the Biden scandal and pointing out all the "holes" in the whistleblower story! That guy is a traitor and not even a real journalist, and now implicated in blackmailing Ukraine...AND THEY ARE GETTING THEIR NEWS FROM HIM.

I love the posts reassuring us that our system will hold. I think it will, too. But it won't be a cakewalk.

I remember thinking when Bush the Lesser got reelected that at some point, the Republicans would push Democracy into a corner, and it would have to fight.

I was surprised to see it take until now for the fight to happen, but it's on. The battle for Democracy is being fought by a LOT of heroes - congress critters, Parkland kids, Greta kids, everyday Americans, and democracy heroes across the globe.

The forces of darkness are waging asymmetrical warfare. There are fewer of them than there are pro-democracy citizens, but they have to their advantage well-developed Russian disinformation strategies, right-wing media, talebangelicals, Incel warrior wannabees, and the transnational criminal mobs.

On our side, the desire for fairness, honesty in government and freedom is blooming all over the world - Hong Kong, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Russia, and every other totalitarian nation.

No amount of oppression and force can smother the desire for freedom and fairness. Eventually, the costs of suppressing freedom and democracy are so great that Totalitarianism will collapse. It's happening now.

Get involved in whatever way you can at your local level.
