GAPYEONG, South Korea September 2, 2012 (AP)
Officials say the religious leader who founded the Unification Church and built it into a multibillion-dollar business empire has died in South Korea at age 92.
Church officials said Monday that the Rev. Sun Myung Moon died at a hospital the church owns near his home in Gapyeong (GAHP' young) after being hospitalized with pneumonia last month.
The patriarch and founder of the controversial Unification Church gained fame in the 1970s and 1980s for pairing up and marrying off thousands of followers at elaborate mass weddings. Critics accused the church of demanding cult-like devotion from its followers.

The Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, the leader of the Unification Church and founder of The Washington Times, died early Monday morning in South Korea. He was 92.
He passed away just before 2 a.m. local time (12:54 p.m. EDT Sunday) from complications of pneumonia, surrounded by family, friends and followers, according to Unification Church leaders.
A comment was not immediately available from Unification Church International President Hyung Jin Moon, his youngest son and appointed successor of the religious movement.
However, in the weeks prior to the passing, Rev. Joon Ho Seuk, the churchs international vice president, said that members worldwide had been conducting prayer vigils and fasting for Rev. Moons health.

That display of Moon's Washington connections pales in comparison to the now notorious 2004 incident in which Sun Myung Moon was "coronated" as "the messiah", in the Dirksen US federal office building, during a ceremony attended by as many as ( claims the Unification Church ) 81 members of the US Congress.

If you could say a hundred random things you could say about him, not one of them would be good.

Let's be honest, it's not like they can just whip up another god. That would be crazy.
Oh, wait...nevermind.

Republicans have worshipped Moon and his Money for decades. This is truly tragic for them -- and I expect Great Wailing and Moaning, and Gnashing of Teeth among the G.O.P.
