More than half of all Cleveland's children live in poverty.

I just read this article and it's shocking

https://www.cleveland.com/opinion/2019/10/rising-poverty-ensnares-many-cleveland-area-children-in-want-what-to-do-about-it.html

Jarvis DeBerry, cleveland.com columnist:

Local poverty rates are the best evidence we have that a rising stock market does not adequately reflect the health of the economy. We need politicians who measure the strength of the economy by falling poverty rates and by lower numbers of people needing food assistance. We need leaders who prioritize alleviation of poverty over tax breaks for corporations.

******** I had no idea that Richard Nixon ever floated an idea to provide a minimum family income to help alleviate poverty. That was in 1969.

The republicans have never waged a war on poverty. I hate these fuckers with their "Believe the Children" bumper stickers & their hypocritical self-righteous bullshit. They have built an economy for the few, not the many. It can't last.

Studies show that there is a direct correlation with the effects of poverty and many of our social ills.

That's what is so frustrating about it. It is a big WTF? People can be shocked to hear this, but if you just look up the poverty rates in this country, well, it's all there and it will continue and that, along with homelessness will worsen, perhaps very dramatically thanks to our Fascist-in-Chief and his loyalists.

Also, it is best to remember that anybody can take a real hit in life. You can lose everything when circumstances are right for it and anybody can become homeless. In fact, a lot of people who are homeless these days are not in that situation as a result of addictions and poor choices, just a series of bad breaks.

We carry insurance because of the possibility that we may need. it, as an example. There is often nothing to insure a person's fall into catastrophic loss in some cases and there really is no safety net, so it is time for an update on our views. Also, once you're there it can be very difficult to downright impossible to get out again.

that many people don’t consider, is lead poisoning in older homes, which account for many of the duplexes and apartments in low income areas. Lead poisoning in children affects their behavior and ability to learn and it lasts through out a person’s life, especially if their brain was affected as a toddler. Yet I have seen comment after comment after articles on lead poisoning blaming the renters or the victims. Never the landlords. And this is just one of many factors.
