Trump thinks you're dumb

BY JESSICA TARLOV, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 10/05/19 12:00 PM EDT

... On Thursday, a reporter asked the president, “What exactly did you hope the Ukrainian president would do about the Bidens?” Trump’s answer was stunning — and obvious at the same time. He replied, “I think if they were honest about it, they’d start a major investigation. … They should investigate the Bidens. … China likewise should start an investigation.”

For those who have been paying close attention, this is, indeed, the exact thing Republicans have spent days denying that Trump asked in his July phone call with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky, though the president has upped the ante by adding a request to China to investigate the former Vice President Joe Biden and his son.

A Monmouth University poll released this week found that only 40 percent of Republicans believe Trump mentioned Biden on the call with the Ukrainian president. What will they say now?

The president is his own worst enemy — and I, for one, am thankful for it. He strikes a hole in the heart of any decent defense of his behavior on a regular basis ...

And those who truly believe that Trump's promises are/were sincere are the truest victims here.

They are among those who are always deceived.

5. "When a candidate for public office faces the voters, he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob

of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or count himself lost ... All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron"

Henry Louis Mencken, 1920

But we should hope that he was not entirely correct in such an assessment

Being pissed off that their lives supposedly suck and looking for scapegoats. Upbringing coupled with internal fears of women and / or people different than themselves. Lots of factors make them susceptible to the right propaganda.

differ so much because parents treated us *very differently*. My very RW brother has untreated ADD. He looked for scapegoats for his failures and found them in the party of lies/liars. Limpballs snags truck drivers.

4. They voted him in because they wanted to destroy the government they were told they hate.

So the more destructive he becomes the stronger they support him.

They hate the government because from Reagan on they've been told over and over that government is bad and must be brought down.
Now it's happening and the fools are cheering.

9. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

An important US law with respect to doing business abroad. I have to do ethics training on that every year, though I have no contact with foreign vendors or customers. It's a short video with questions that I don't pay really close attention to. Just enough to get most of the questions right. But in my mind, if there is even a whisper of impropriety by Joe Biden or his son doing business with a foreign company and bribing or pressuring foreign government officials with respect to that business, why the fuck isn't Barr's justice department investigating? I'm certainly no legal scholar, but I think this would definitely fall in the US Justice Dept's jurisdiction. Where's the federal investigation, trumpers? Barr the Hut is too busy? Or are they too scared to weaponize the Justice department to that degree?
