The penalty for treason...

Can be death. The reasoning being that during a time of war if someone commits treason it would cause many more American soldiers to die. Therefore the traitor's punishment is to suffer the same fate.

In times of peace a traitorous act is more a political action and doesn't cause multiple deaths so the punishment can be less.

But if our president thinks that political traitorous acts in times of peace should be punished with execution ...

who am I to disagree?
