Supreme Court hands victory to blind man who sued Domino's over site accessibility

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/07/dominos-supreme-court.html
<snip>
The case was originally brought by a blind man named Guillermo Robles, who sued the pizza chain after he was unable to order food on Domino’s website and mobile app despite using screen-reading software.

Attorneys for Robles argued in court papers that the Americans with Disabilities Act requires businesses with physical locations to make their websites and other online platforms accessible to those with disabilities.

After Robles was successful before the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Domino’s urged the Supreme Court to take up the case.

Attorneys for Domino’s, backed by a range of business groups, argue that the ADA does not apply to online platforms that were not envisioned when the law was passed in 1990. And, they say, no clear rules exist for how to make their platforms properly accessible.

Fuck the greedy MoFos -don't give them your money = this is a great win for persons with disabilities.

I worked for a government contractor who built websites for several federal agencies in the early 2000's.
We were required to make those sites accessible per the ADA rules if we wanted the contract.

The rules exist, are published, and widely understood.

Plus, it's not that hard to make an online application accessible. I don't know why Domino's wouldn't just do it as standard practice, let alone why they would fight this in court.

Also, you can see that this upsets me, to the point that I registered for this forum after several years of just lurking.

Or perhaps I should phrase it as "what was most likely causing it".

What a waste of their time, "range of business groups". Just suck it up and make your sites accessible. Do the right goddamn thing.

We're trying to impeach a Mobster here!

from a "range of business groups" who want to nip "ADA creep" into the virtual world.

as an architect who's constantly struggling w/ ADA's impact on building & site costs, I kind of get their point.
