Jonah Goldberg on Morning Edition/NPR+Steve Inskeep

https://www.npr.org/2019/10/07/767792766/the-case-against-impeaching-president-trump. Clip available here.

I did not purposely plan to wake up to that miserable RW "intellectual". Hearing that twit pontificate on what Democrats should do, did raise my BP before 7am. And Steve Inskeep is a marginally adequate suck up interviewer.

2. Why yes. He got his, what else should he care about

From his wiki page......"Jonah Jacob Goldberg (born March 21, 1969) is an American conservative syndicated columnist,[1] author, political analyst, and commentator. Formerly a senior editor at National Review (1998–May 2019),[2] Goldberg writes a weekly column about politics and culture for the Los Angeles Times.[3][4]"

Snip-"Goldberg's career as a pundit was launched following his mother Lucianne Goldberg's role in the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal, when he wrote about the "media siege" on his mother's apartment in The New Yorker.[20][21] Goldberg has spoken of his mother and the Lewinsky scandal:

Snip-"My mother was the one who advised Linda Tripp to record her conversations with Monica Lewinsky and to save the dress. I was privy to some of that stuff, and when the administration set about to destroy Lewinsky, Tripp, and my mom, I defended my mom and by extension Tripp ... I have zero desire to have those arguments again. I did my bit in the trenches of Clinton's trousers.[22]

These tapes became the focal point of the Lewinsky scandal. Goldberg was privy to the tapes and the conversations his mother had with Tripp because he served as a vice president of his mother's now-defunct literary agency."

Like Tucker Carlson, Jarvanka & Maggie Habermann grabbing position, money, and
"intellectual credibility" on the rising right wing news media.

4. NPR is just a joke anymore

I try to listen, but it often feels like they trip over themselves to provide the Chosen One cover.
Was listening when Goldberg was announced and flipped it off immediately.

7. The 2 big daily shows

Morning Edition and All Things Considered, weekdays, are becoming mainstream mush to my ears; MaryLouise Kelly & Steve Inskeep value their access, this mornings' smug satisfaction in Inskeeps voice was infuriating and limited his interviewing skills.

Both the Weekend Morning Edition and Weekend Evening All Things Considered are, IMO, the better hard news broadcasters

The locally produced news shows-WBUR-On Point, Here & Now, WOSU-All Sides with Ann Fisher, the Snollygoster Central Ohio political Podcast are more balanced and educational, and the locally produced music shows can be amazing.

8. I guess when I think of NPR I think of Morning Edition and All Things Considered

When Steve Innskeep came in following Bob Edwards it felt like a giant step backwards and still does. As you noted he seems to value his access and as such steps very lightly.

Seldom listen to ATC anymore. Once there was a tome when I would carry a radio with me so I wouldn't miss a show.

I will agree the weekend shows are much better. Franky, I think Scott Simon is a real bright spot in the NPR pantheon. We look forward to listening to him on Saturday.

NPR is really the only tolerable over-the-air radio left in our area. Therefore about 5 years ago we bought an internet radio. Now we get the BBC in London, CBC in Toronto and a couple of left wing radio stations as regular radio stations.

I wound up listening to an 80s based station, & I had forgotten about the # of commercials, and annoying as heck vaping ones

They cost @$100. Pretty simple to set up. You can program up to 100 stations.

The first two on that page are the same - no idea what the difference is - that is the one we have.
A friend bought one about a month ago and she loves it.

ETA - we listen to KTNF in Minnesota and WCPT in Chicago
