Open Skies Treaty, help explain this to me

Michael McFaul (@McFaul) Tweeted:
We are now pulling out of the Open Skies Treaty? Really? Please tell me this can't be true. https://t.co/2KfZoYA8ep

Jason Haddix (@doctor_eon) Tweeted:
@Sker4Lyfe @McFaul We’re giving up a way to gather intelligence on the Russian military.

lewoo #SafeAct #HandMarkedPaperBallots (@FL_lewoo) Tweeted:
@McFaul "American withdrawal would hurt our allies...and only benefit Russia."

GET THIS RUSSIAN TRAITOR OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. NOW. https://t.co/SD7mqyBMkg

This allows the treaty members to fly over each others country to look around, like trust but verify?

The treaty allows the Russians to make the exact same kind of overflights over US bases. The US from, from what I've read, has better satellite reconnaissance and I would like to think he was advised we don't really need the treaty at this point. If this is just another move he decided to make on his own he'll need to explain.

McFaul is the former Ambassador to Putin under Obama. I'm going to trust his opinion on this.

The Russians flew over Dayton Ohio-Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Great Lakes Naval Base is near Chicago, both have a lot of long distance command & control capabilities
