Looks like some serious rain heading for South Florida - pay attention

Keep the umbrellas handy. South Florida can expect a lot of rain over the next few days with up to 2 to 4 inches possible in some areas through at least Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is saying that two air masses, one drifting south from the Lake Okeechobee area, and another moving north from the Florida Keys, will combine to soak South Florida with rain showers and thunderstorms beginning Monday.

“This activity will be capable of producing torrential rainfall and training storms,” said an advisory from forecaster Paxton Fell of the Miami/South Florida forecast office of the weather service.

We had rain off and on all day, but not heavy. First rain we've had for more than a month.

We have had daily thunderstorms for several days - today is the first day without any rain in about a week but we sure needed it. The main reservoir is about 60% full now and more rain is expected by mid-week.
It is lovely to hear the excitement of the birds and to see the mountains and grass displaying various shares of green. The smell of the flowers is oh so pleasing. Of course the downside is flooding in some areas but it wasn't as bad as expected.
Hope you get some more - looks like you will.

We were worried even more about Dorian because the ground was so saturated. Then, nothing.

I'll take the rain - we need it, and the promised cooling down.

It sounds quite lovely where you are. I don't appreciate it here as much. The unrelenting heat has made it difficult.

Miami normally receives almost 10 inches of rain in September but this year it was closer to 3.

August was similarly above average and one of the 3 or 4 wettest Augusts on recent record. But that doesn't sustain given the heat and length of sunshine throughout September. It really needs to be more balanced otherwise it does create drought conditions in a hurry.

My lawn went from great to brown and challenged within weeks. Same at the golf course I play. Water level at one duck pond on that course went from overflowing to too low.

In meteorology, training denotes repeated areas of rain, typically associated with thunderstorms, that move over the same region in a relatively short period of time. Training thunderstorms are capable of producing excessive rainfall totals, often causing flash flooding.

Sun - rain - sun - rain - sun - rain - sun.

And there's a good chance of rain for the next few days.
