I have basked in the glow of Rachel Madow

And lived to tell the tale! I just returned home from a wild 27 hour journey to San Francisco and back (14 hours of driving total) in order to attend Rachel Maddow's book release event at the City Arts & Lectures theater. The ticket included a copy of the book Blowout and I am excited to read it. The event was completely sold out on the night she announced it. I was very lucky to buy my tickets immediately so I only had to pay $59. The guys sitting behind me paid $400 each!

Anyway, she spoke for a few minutes and then read an exerpt from the book. The crowd was enthusiastic (massive understatement!) and then she was interviewed by Dan Pfeiffer (President Obama's Communications Director). It was all so funny and fabulous - like having my own personal Rachel Maddow Show without any commercials. It was ALL A-block! And she left us (as she always does) laughing, better educated, and hopeful.

The audio of the event will be posted on the City Arts & Lectures podcast at some point in the near future, and it will be offered on KQED 88.5 FM soon. The website is cityarts.net. I will post again when I see that it is available. Be sure to listen!

I can only imagine the enthusiasm and excitement in the room. It must feel comforting to see so many fans there. She is very special and I imagine her fans are too.

It must have felt like you were in a room with soulmates!

Because I understand that it's her voice reading her own book.
I'm always disappointed every week night after she signs off. If I purchase the audio book, then I can listen to her at will.

Excellent idea!

Her name is Rachel Maddow and she's a brilliant journalist who has a program at 9 Eastern on MSNBC. You should watch it some time. It's very good for surviving these turbulent times.

Last night as I left the theater, several other fans and I agreed that we'd love to take her out for a beer and chat. She is as genuine and self deprecating as you would imagine. And so damned funny!

We've seen Rachel a time or two here in Cambridge. She is certainly one of the great minds reporting these days. And real nice, funny in person as you saw.

...and this older gay man finds her absolutely adorable. Rachel rocks. And when broadcast awards are handed out, Rachel should get a Pulitzer for her steady, on-point reporting about the tRump* nightmare that consumes us. Rachel rocks!

Especially don't tell her beloved Susan!

Or my husband. (He already knows.)

On edit: Totally support the Pulitzer idea.

I'm sooooooooo happy for you. I'm watching her show now-DVR'd from just a little over an hour ago (Mon. 10/7) and she mentioned she's in L.A. which is where I live. Obviously, I wasn't able to get tickets.

I've been a fan of hers when I first discovered her on Air America. I worked at a career college and my hours were 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. I'm normally a morning person but the job was a great opportunity so I took it. Also, it was about an hour from where I lived with no traffic. Anyway, her show aired at around 10 at night. There was also a guy on the show named Kent who was kind of a side-kick but it was mainly her show. It was in the early 2000's and no one had heard of her. That program made my drive home a delight! She was amazing even way back then.

I actually predict that someday there'll some kind of "Rachel Maddow Excellence in Journalism" award given to those who excel in this arena.

He's an award winning comedy writer.

I haven't seen him on Rachel's in years. I wonder what's up, and hope he's well. Anybody know?

I watch her show faithfully whenever I can. She fills you in on things that most of the mainstream media ignores - but which are nevertheless mighty important - not only the front story, but also the back story, and the side stories as well.

It was a part of her book tour for her new book BLOWOUT. It was offered by the San Francisco City Arts & Lectures program. There are maybe ten or so stops for her all across the country. She was in Tulsa, OK on Saturday, San Francisco on Sunday, and LA last night. Hence her show aired from LA.

I don't know what her personal charities are either. That would be interesting to understand. I'm sure she is very generous.
