There is talk that Trump may quit before the impeachment vote.

The reasoning is this:

To Trump image and legacy are everything.
He has said that an impeachment on his record would be awful because it would permanently tarnish his image and his legacy.
The impeachment itself, not the judgement of the Senate, is the thing that worries him.

Clinton's impeachment, even though not convicted, is a major part of his legacy. This is what Trump wants to avoid.

Since there's no question that he will be impeached he would have to quit before the vote.
He would come up with some face saving story and suddenly ghost out.

One complication is that there are things that his foreign handlers want before he leaves office. He is probably obligated to provide them which means he may be starting an intense campaign of extreme measures to finish the job quickly.

He would have no voters to worry about so would be free to order up all kinds of drastic measures without concern of consequences.

If he becomes more insanely destructive to American interests in the next few months it may be a sign.

Wish I had a buck for every thread here expecting resignation.

I remember several posters predicted he’d resign before the end of the first year. They shall remain nameless lol, but I remember it well.

If a Dem wins the Presidency, Trump will be prosecuted. Ironically. He may need Pence to pardon him, which only happens if Trump resigns before being ousted.

...I’m betting he would find it impossible to believe that Pence would pardon him – because, if it would help him politically, he would renege on a promise to pardon Pence, if the roles were reversed.

Therefore, I’m thinking the only way Trump sees to avoid prison is to remain as president…indefinitely.

Almost like he's tying up loose ends.

You may be right. I suspect he'll give even more away over the next few weeks/months, then pull the ripcord.

A rational person might make that decision, like Nixon did (though his image and legacy were already in the crapper). But Trump isn't rational; he's a raging narcissist who can't ever acknowledge the possibility of error or weakness. The only way he'd resign is if he could convince himself that doing so was winning in some way, and that he would be more important and worshiped by his cult members as an ex-president/leader of some cockeyed populist "revolution" than he is as president.

but no way. With a looming possibility of prison, combined with his narcissism, he will NEVER leave. Unless he spins it like he is a benevolent being doing it for the good of the country with the reassurance he will never be investigated for anything.

Since he received the nomination. Then talk that he'll quit before inauguration. Then before the end of the first year. etc. etc.

I hope he does, even if I truly dread a Pence Presidency. But I'm getting weary of quiting hopes.

He is delusional and also terrified of the legal ramifications of losing the POTUS.

He will do ANYTHING to stay in power.

This goes nowhere but downhill from here. It is going to be a shitshow of shitshows and will, unfortunately, become violent (at multiple levels, up to and including wars of distraction, as well as domestic, POTUS-induced unrest) in outcome I truly fear.

to declare his version of bankruptcy. This'll be lucky number 7. I think he's punting now, trying to lavish Pootie with as many gifts as possible before the shit hits the fan for good. Pootie knows better than Dump that the jig is up, and as soon as his useful idiot is no longer useful, they'll drop him like a bag of dirt.

My wild-ass-guess is that Pootie has told his idiot errand boy to crank up the pace on the destruction, resign, blame the deep state, try to foment violence and even cast doubt on the legitimacy of the White Rat that will replace him, which won't be hard to do.

Pootie doesn't care about who's in the WH, he just wants chaos. His plan has worked out fantastically so far.

If he quits, he's no longer of any use to Putin. Therefore, Russian money that keeps him afloat would stop. In six months he's be bankrupt and homeless.

Nancy & Co. can get hold of all of the documents relating to his personal wealth, financial statements, tax returns, and threaten him with revealing all of it to the public as part of the impeachment hearings, there is a slim chance he'll hit the eject button so as not to have the illusion blown for his die-hard dead-enders.

Even so, he may be willing to make that gamble, putting forth the idea that these are all phony documents cooked up by the deep state.
