In 1968, France was a dangerous place to be for a 21-year-old American, but Mitt Romney was right in the middle of it. - Gloria Borger, CNN, in their "documentary," "Romney Revealed"
Via digby, Tommy Christopher of Mediate lampoons CNN and Gloria Borger:

Yep, in 1968, the brave choice was to avoid the draft and Vietnam and go to France. What in the world has happened to CNN?

Fortunate Son
Recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Written by John Fogerty
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! More! More! yoh
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no

(3,820 posts)The French were incredibly and dangerously rude, putting their fingers under their chins and making gestures. I saw it. It happened to me. It was far worse than Nam, believe me.
"It was far worse than Nam, believe me."
...more than 50,000 Americans died in France.
There are a lot of dangerous places all over the world, and Americans are there. I've seen shit too.
To compare France to Vietnam is beyond idiocy.

(57,936 posts)On 7 March 1966, French President Charles De Gaulle announced that France would withdraw from NATO's integrated military structure. The United States was informed that it must remove its military forces from France by 1 April 1967.
The 73rd operated the depot until departure of all US forces from France, leaving Châteauroux Air Base on 20 March 1967.

(116,464 posts)how everyone in trying to redefine reality to give this asshole a pass. Lies are not all that bad. France was more dangerous than Vietnam. I guess that's why a draft dodger like Mitt ended up there. I mean, most Americans weren't allowed to "visit" Iraq.
Oh, forgot to mention that none of Mitt's five sons served in the military.
