Season's first flu cases confirmed in Maryland

https://www.wbaltv.com/article/2019-seasons-first-flu-cases-confirmed-maryland/29400881#

BALTIMORE —
Maryland health officials said the season's first flu cases have been confirmed.

The Maryland Department of Health announced Tuesday that there are 11 laboratory-confirmed cases identified since Sept. 1.

The majority of the cases so far have been subtyped as influenza A (H3N2), with a few classified as influenza B. The vaccine protects against both influenza A and B, health officials said in a statement.

"We don't know yet whether flu activity this early indicates a particularly bad season on the horizon," Maryland Health Secretary Robert R. Neall said in a statement. "Still, we can't emphasize strongly enough -- get your flu shot now. Don’t put it off. The vaccine is widely available at grocery stores, pharmacies and local health clinics, in addition to your doctor's office."

It's good to encourage people to get vaccinated. However, there is always someone around to argue against it on some basis or another. We get the "it's not really that effective" and "some people can't take it" or some other reason. Bottom line is that the more people who get vaccinated, the more people who are protected. All the rest is rhetoric.
