Minor point - 2/3 of the Senate is not required to convict

6: The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

"Two thirds of the members present".

I would strongly suggest that, in the event of Impeachment, that GOP senators be encouraged to refuse to attend as a protest against the sham of a travesty or a witch hunt, or whatever.

Some of them might miss their flights, oversleep... who knows.

That'd be a hilarious way for Trump to go down: all the GOP "moderates" simply not showing up for the vote, and 49 Dems being enough to constitute 2/3.

26 Repukes would need to oversleep. R-Money is 1.

Article I, section 5 of the Constitution requires that a quorum (51 senators) be present for the Senate to conduct business. Often, fewer than 51 senators are present on the floor, but the Senate presumes a quorum unless a roll call vote or quorum call suggests otherwise

There are always details that the layman will miss.

Thanks for the clarity, sir.

I like the idea that the Senate could hold the impeachment trial and then vote in secret. You know that the majority of the Republicans would vote to convict if they didn't have to own their votes.

As always, you're a voice of clarity... and humor.

The rest can express outrage, from a distance, that the Democrats even brought articles of impeachment.

In Wisconsin, Republicans called a recess, and as soon as the Democrats left the room, immediately reconvened and passed their bill.

knowledge but I would guess there is no precedent for excluding a member of the Senate from sitting as a juror in an impeachment proceeding. I wonder if before the trial begins the senators have to take an oath beyond their original oath.

Considering how many dick moves state level Repubs do with surprise votes (Wisconsin, Texas, and Virginia come to mind) then hold a surprise removal vote 5am Christmas morning.

He will wait for all the dems to leave for recess or for the night and then hold a flash vote with only repugs present. Think NC state senate.

See, trump had a unanimous vote to not comvict!
