I like the idea that the Senate could hold the impeachment trial and then vote in secret. You know that the majority of the Republicans would vote to convict if they didn't have to own their votes.

knowledge but I would guess there is no precedent for excluding a member of the Senate from sitting as a juror in an impeachment proceeding. I wonder if before the trial begins the senators have to take an oath beyond their original oath.
