@brianbeutler
Republicans did this elaborate Jedi mind trick to convince Democrats they'd suffer consequences for voting to sanction the impeachment inquiry while recognizing all along that the vote is actually perilous for THEM.

(18,837 posts)I heard every angle and rationale for 2016. Everything's changed. The MAGAts aren't enough to secure a second term. He'll probably get 100% MAGAt turnout, and he'll lose SOME portion of Dems who voted for him (one would hope a LARGE portion), and I while I don't believe in the Republican platform, I also don't believe that 100% of Republicans are MAGAts.
All people have to do is show up.

(82,849 posts)Here's the inconvenient fact: It's Trump and Trump alone calling for a vote of the full House to authorize the impeachment inquiry. The House leadership should extend its thanks to the President for his concern, but the House reserves to itself the power to set its own rules and procedures.
Giving in to Trump's stupid rants doesn't end them, it doesn't make things better, and it makes it look like Trump is "winning" or calling the shots. See the Obama birth certificate nontroversy and the Warren Native ancestry kerfuffle. Trump was dead wrong in both instances, but he continues to strut and crow about how he made others do what he wanted them to do. Also, Trump continues to this day to question Obama's citizenship and Warren's ancestry. Calling for a vote of the full House will only make Trump brag even more, and then he'll demand a vote of the full House for every little procedural step. Once the House has done what Trump wants once, he'll be back to make more demands.
