It's been asked 'how can you be a Christ follower and a Democrat'.
But then, how can you be a republican and profess to be a follower of Christ...

(11,098 posts)My neighbor questioned a campaign sign in my yard. "I thought you belonged to First Baptist. I don't think you can be a Democrat and a Baptist."
I responded: "You may be right but I am convinced you cannot be a Christian and a Republican."
That ended our political conversations.

Mount Hood explosion Edit
Further information: USS_Mount_Hood_(AE-11) § Disaster
At Manus on 10 November 1944, Cebu was anchored only 800 yd (730 m) from Mount Hood when the ammunition ship exploded, showering Cebu's decks with bomb fragments and heavy projectiles. Five of her men were killed and six wounded, but quick work prevented serious damage to the ship itself. She was able to continue her work without interruption, preparing ships for the Lingayen and Iwo Jima assaults.[3]

(70,696 posts)It served in Korea and other places and was decommissioned (?) a couple of times and brought back into service, and we were using it 20+ years later in Vietnam. I was aboard in 1967-68. And the one main place we went for R&R (3 weeks) was the big beautiful Navy base at Subic Bay, Olongapo City, The Philippines. The previous crew 1966, had some kind of rescue mission for a vessel that was in some kind of trouble, semi-like what you describe. I realize your incident was from 1944, not 1966.
*************I. will. WAIT. for that picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
