Should we be discouraged by approval polls?

I will never understand approval polls for Trump.

New poll out today shows 43% approval/49% disapprove among all voters. 46/52 among registered voters. It's YouGov which is only a B rating, but still. That's crazy.

How are his approval numbers going up? He's literally declaring himself a King completely immune from all investigations and impeachment, and getting our allies killed. He admitted to crimes in live television.

How can I not just accept the fact that America is finished as a Democracy and start desperately looking for ways to move to another country? I do not want to live in a country where nearly half the people think Trump is doing a good job.

Almost half the country wants a king.

Bad news, but that's what we're up against.

In case you haven’t noticed, Trump-style authoritarianism is spreading throughout the globe. I can’t think of a single country you could move to where the same scenario as here couldn’t play out in the next few years, if it hasn’t already done so…and, there, you wouldn’t even have the (minimal) protection that comes from being a native.

Sad to say, but it looks like we’re headed into one of those eras of global collective insanity that presage a dark period for the entire world. If we don’t stay and fight it now, there will likely be no place to run in the future.

and put a stop to the far-right for now.

Portugal just gave the Socialist Party the majority (note: The Socialist Party is center-left, not actually Socialist).

Denmark and Netherlands gave large majorities to the Green Party and have basically put a big halt to the far-right.

Even Austria, which is pretty conservative had their far-right party lose pretty badly.

So most of Europe seems to be doing reasonably well compared to the US.

financially will approve of him until he hurts their pocketbooks. It’s the bottom line for them. They don’t care a hoot what he does. It’s always money.

Remember that there are scads of people in this country who couldn't care less about what is going on in this country, unless it affects them directly. If they aren't suffering or having their Kardashian fix interrupted, they couldn't care less what is going on. Then, you have the deplorable base who are so enamoured of Trump that, if he wanted to eat one of their children, they'd get him some ketchup and fries to go with it. Not surprised.

9. I'll say it again, look at the graphs at 538. Trump's approval rating is basically a straight line.

The ebb and flow is pretty much just margin of error. And you really need to consider a compilation of polls the way 538 does.

Anyway, no predecessor has had an approval rating that's nearly as steady. Cult 45 is real. We are battling a cult, plain and simple.
