What is Trump's way out of the Kurd mess?

This is spiraling on the ground in Syria and politically for him here in the US. He’s lost just about everyone and there’s no excusing his decision. Even some of his base is appalled.

He’ll never admit he made a mistake, but he has to find a way back. Will Turkey stop if he cuts a deal? Another day or two of this and it’s going to get really bad for him with Republicans.

We all knew something like this was inevitable.

Things will only get worse for him as it sinks in to the majority of the lumpenprole electorate, over the course of the next few weeks, the magnitude of this gross incompetence, at best, treason, at worst.

This time, I think Red Don has cooked himself.

Would not be surprised if he 'dies in his sleep' sometime in the next few weeks.

But for Trump I think this is a clear sign to everyone how dangerous he is for the US. He did this all on his own, didn’t talk to anyone in his cabinet or the military and he caused a war. Because he’s a know nothing idiot.

That is the correct answer. This is yet another example of Trump's concept that all interactions are transactions. The Kurds do not matter to him. No one in Syria does. Why would anyone entertain the idea that they would matter to him any more than citizens of this country do? This isn't a mystery.

This is going to be really bad, Erdogan wants to exterminate the Kurds. Maybe Trump says he crossed that line and then tries to pretend he’s the peace maker.

Call up Erdogan and told him the way the cow eats the cabbage. We need to pull out our troops. Been there too long. You even think about invading we are dropping the hammer of Thor on you. No military sales, maybe even sanctions for potentially taking NATO to war. Oh yeah, and don’t call on NATO if you get in to deep. With a regular president this would have worked. Erdogan is weak at home. Just lost Istanbul.

And Americans truly want out of the Middle East. Even Trump can see that.

But of course he is not a regular president because every leader over there has dirt on him and he is not interested in the US. Just Trump.

So now we have tv images of fleeing and dead civilians and even Fox is running a story about a humiliated Special Forces soldier.

If he were not so stupid we would be well and truly fucked. All his crows coming home to roost are of his own making.

The Trump organization is heavily invested in Turkey, even Donald admitted he has a conflict of interest there. Erdogan likely has evidence tying Trump to the Khashoggi murder. And no one yet knows what Putin is holding over Trump's head.

They didn't fight beside us in WWII. He'll (significant pause and glancing down to his right)... break Turkey's economy.

So, lies and spin and he'll demand the Republicans back him because of the impeachment inquiry.

Which many (most) will... look at Lindsay Graham calling for a Trump loyalty oath from Republicans out one side of his mouth while pretending to disagree with him on his pulling out of Syria and abandoning our allies, with the other. This is how this will play out until/if local polling disagrees with their methods.

Meanwhile the Kurd will be slaughtered, Turkey and Putin are pleased.

...figuring that, eventually, the media will get bored of writing stories about dead Kurds. They’ll be gone; he’ll still be here.

And the worst-case scenario in this? A revival of ISIS, which would be a win for him as he can continue spreading fear about evil brown people, causing voters to flock to him for protection.

He only pulled troops out of the border region.

Right now the border is the only place Turkey can infiltrate.

We still have about 1,000 troops further south.

He can say, "I was just threatening to pull troops out. I changed my mind". The odds are he will walk this back like he does with some of his tariff stuff. Of course, this will really piss Turkey off, so maybe he won't do this.....(Unless he makes another concession to Turkey) Trump tries to play both sides and he's bad at it.

Either way, he's in a mess.

I believe the number of troops removed was not very high.

I can't believe we're talking about the same region where my grandmother was deported in 1915 and watched her family die. They were from the Anatolian mountains, as most Armenians were.

Eastern Syria is where the Turks sent people to die. The climate was horrible and Armenians died from thirst and starvation in Syria. I think that is where most Armenians died. My grandmother was OK in the mountains, (she walked over 100 miles...no one in her family was dead from the trek) but when they got to the camps in Syria, they all started dying like flies.

What a pathetic attempt. Trump rolled over. Even if this was offered (and it wasn’t, this is a lie) he looks so weak and pathetic. Trump agreed to the invasion. He gave them the go ahead. He’s been clear on that. No way to spin that.
