It appears, according to a source, that Donald Trump is calling Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell up to 3 times a day, demanding Republican LOYALTY to him as Impeachment hearings crank up the volume against him. Is Trump scared? You bet your boots he is....Pressure on Trump is mounting by the hour as he shakes down McConnell and the Republicans to save his ass from himself.

Trump warns GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell about disloyal Republicans.
Even as the White House appears to settle on the legal tactics to stave off Democrats' impeachment demands, uncertainty and unease over Trump's messaging approach remains high among his Republican allies, who see the ever-growing inquiry consuming the White House.
Trump has offered scant indication he is turning his focus to governing, despite his lawyers writing in a letter to Democrats that "he remains focused on fulfilling his promises to the American people."
Instead, the President has spent hours tweeting about the impeachment and lighting up the phone lines of his allies on Capitol Hill -- including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, to whom he's stressed the importance of Republican unity.

(36,060 posts)That there is breaking the presidential oath of office. Another Article of Impeachment.
I hope he's put it in writing somewhere. That would be evidence.
I wish it constituted treason, so he could be indicted forthwith.
The whole fight is whether this will be a nation of men (scofflaws) or a nation of laws.

I can't help thinking that Mitch's lizard brain is working out both his re-election strategies and just how to get another Republican running for the White House next year.

Each was brought down by the mob establishment, including members of their own gang, when they went to excess after power and money.

(43,173 posts)GOP are in a corner. Loyalty to Trump, and risk their seats and reputation to history. Loyalty to America and risk their seats by Trump primaries. They have no good choice regarding themselves, Trump, and their party. A few may realize they can't have it all and go patriotic. A very few.

(5,499 posts)He knows that Senate Republicans can turn on him in a second. He would be out on his ass before he knew what happened. And his access to many things would be gone.
He would have access to the press but would be very disorganized otherwise.
I think for this to work there would be a back room deal to not impeach Pence. Let him be a lame duck president.

(2,596 posts)Therefore, making Pence a likely lame duck POTUS? tRump doesn't want to go. He won't be making any deals. He will take the whole world down before he slinks off in ignominy.

(5,499 posts)And it's better for us if Pelosi doesn't become president. Let's keep the spotlight on Pence, especially if he pardons Trump. But McConnell is probably over Trump. And we know how he likes to have the last laugh.
