No one knows why Trump abandoned the Kurds to be slaughtered, but here's a possibility:

he's throwing a tantrum.

Like a toddler's who's not getting his way, he is lashing out to hurt and destroy---anyone---anything.

Unfortunately, instead of broken toys and food on the walls, the result is piles of corpses---men, women and cildren.

He cares not.

What do you mean "no one knows"? EVERYBODY knows why he did it. Same reason as ever. Goodheart Oct 2019 #1

Daddy Vladdy knew that by getting Cantaloupe Caligula to abandon allies like the Kurds, other ally countries will likely follow suit and abandon the US (and the rest of NATO) the next time armed conflict arises. Which should be any minute now.

...if what you describe could be classified as credit. The real reason? It was the last thing a flatterer (Erdogan, in this case) whispered in his ear.

Republicans seem to prefer their presidents dumb and manipulable by more nefarious puppeteers. Look at Bush II. Difference being, we think he was only manipulated by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Saudi Arabia, et al. Trump is so fucking infantile, vapid, delusional, immoral, etc, that he's manipulable by anyone. He has 0 character to guide his actions or what he says, and no ability to reason. He is the human embodiment of a corrupt US political party's, and any corrupt foreign leader's, rubber stamp.

Russia or Turkey or someone had Kompromat on him and wanted this done promptly because his impeachment was rapidly approaching.

Betraying our allies so no one trusts us is another bonus for Putin.

Getting the NATO countries pissed enough at Turkey to consider throwing one of their own out - more bonus for Putin.

There are other strategic goals Putin achieves by ordering #Traitor to do this
