a wicked sense of humor. He cooked REAL food: real clam chowder with no faking or scrimping, rib roast roasted with the ribs ... every week or so I'd sidle over to the kitchen and ask, "Hey man, do you have any scraps for my cat?" and he'd give me a big brown shopping bag full of the ribs that had been roasted around the meat. My mother would marinate them with a pineapple soy kind of marinade and warm them up ... OMG!

Bebe was a good crook. I mean good at it. Few people can name any crime associated with him. His relationship with Nixon is best understood as his being Nixon's handler.

I just like saying that name to myself from time to time. Especially when things feel particularly "Tricky Dicky". Bebe Rebozo is one of the best names in American political history.

I always associated his name with a famous clown from my youth. But he was a serious man. A hoodlum, for sure. He understood the workings of organized crime at a far higher level than Nixon did.

I'm loving the news these days, including Rudy's self-destruction. Trump isn't quite ready to throw him under the bus yet, though he is trying to distance himself from Rudy. But it is only a matter of time!

Like, I knew Al CAPONE was of Italian derivation, but we all pronounced it "ka-PONE" instead of "ka-pony". So "Bebe" is not bee-bee as national news people taught us to say it, but, rather, beh-beh ("baby" in Spanish).

So, back then it seemed a teeny bit odd that Tricky was always traveling to vacays with Bebe, but Bebe was a servant, no? A couple of decades ago we have gotten used to big Hollywood stars getting divorces to link up with nannies.

Rebozo quickly became best friend and financial and real estate advisor to Nixon. In 1968 Rebozo changed his party from Democratic to Republican.[5]

According to Rebozo, the two men were swimming together at Rebozo's home in June 1972 when Nixon was first informed of the Watergate Hotel break-in. And he was with the president on the night that Nixon resolved to resign from the presidency. John Dean, Nixon's lawyer, testified before the House Judiciary Committee he was ordered to covertly direct government agencies to punish a journalist who called Rebozo "Nixon's bagman."[3] Rebozo was investigated for accepting covert payments of $100,000 on behalf of Nixon.[4] ....
