Everything and everyone Trump touches turns to shit; unfortunately he has his tiny fingers on the United States.

While he was Nixon's AG during his first term, Mitchell acted to restrict civil rights in a variety of ways, including by encouraging the use of no-knock warrants and other police behavior mostly directed at PoC. But he really broke bad after he left the DoJ in 1971 to become Nixon's campaign manager for the 1972 election. He was up to his ears in the dirty tricks and money-laundering schemes related to Watergate, and even had his own wife drugged so she wouldn't talk to the media. Eventually he was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury. Barr is doing his dirty tricks in his capacity as Attorney General, which is arguably even worse.

Dorothy Hunt, wife of Watergate burglar E. Howard Hunt, died in the crash of United Airlines Flight 533 on December 8, 1972. At the time and in subsequent years, there were many rumors -- some of them quite bizarre -- about that flight, although the NTSB concluded that there was no evidence of sabotage. The conspiracy theory was promoted by a guy named Sherman Skolnick, a bizarre figure in his own right; he used to maintain a "dial a conspiracy" phone line.

Although none of Skolnick's "evidence" was persuasive, it is true that Dorothy Hunt was carrying $10,000 in $100 bills when the plane went down. I'm sure there's an innocent explanation for that.

Somewhere on the internet, you can find a recording of CIA Director Richard Helms breaking the news to Richard Nixon during a phone call. Nixon seemed genuinely unsettled; Helms -- as per his usual -- was enigmatic and unreadable.

Nixon's Attorney General John Mitchell was convicted of Perjury, Obstruction of Justice and Conspiracy trying to protect a criminal president. He went to prison for 19 months.
Trump's Attorney General William Barr deserves to suffer a much longer sentence when this is all over.
