1. It's always a balance. They can/will usually say more if it's not public.

But there are times when a public hearing is better because people might actually pay attention.

What they learned can still come out later. And it will if it's bad.

If they discuss anything having to do with national security, I guess they want to keep it private. But it doesn't seem like there would have been in this case.

including the all-important point that she defied Trump-Pompeo's "orders" to not appear in violation of a congressional subpoena.

I'd rather see this than the mockery that the likes of Devin Nunes, Mike Conaway, and other RWers would attempt to turn it into.

It lets him manipulate the narrative to normalize his criminality and assault all his accusers outside a courtroom where he can get away with all manner of shenanigans...even actual threats.
