Incompetence has never been a limitation for corruption. The Nazis were staggeringly incompetent in their own ways and Mussolini could have given Trump a run for his money in the incompetence arena. The problem with incompetence is that incompetent people generally have far more confidence in their abilities than is warranted, and most people who are also incompetent cannot distinguish between competence and confidence. Obama was competent, which meant that there were few crises that reached a stage where he had to actually appear in front of the crowds and lead the marching band. Trump operates by creating a crisis, then getting in front of the resulting parade without actually doing anything to mitigate the crisis. What worries me is that by doing this, he is leaving one smoldering wreck after another that someone else will ultimately have to clean up after.
