Gen McCaffrey: "Vital we withdraw nuclear weapons from Turkey."

Barry R McCaffrey ✔ @mccaffreyr3

Vital we withdraw nuclear weapons from Turkey. NATO should administratively cut links to their armed forces. Erdogan an authoritarian threat to his own people and his NATO allies.

Richard N. Haass ✔ @RichardHaass

Long overdue to give up fiction that Erdogan’s Turkey is an ally in practice. US should withdraw all nuclear weapons, reduce reliance on Turkey’s bases, and restrict intelligence sharing and arms sales. Should also articulate red lines in Syria.

He 100% wants to turn the US’s democracy into Turkey’s. One where the leader has imprisoned hundreds of thousands who oppose him.

Putin wants to split Turkey from NATO.

Strange how all these actions by Trump are leading to things that Putin wants.

Aren't our ICBM's, and SLBM's enough?

Why should we have those weapons on foreign soil anyway?

That being said, we shouldn't have nukes on foreign soil, too much risk of them being hijacked, our ICBM's and SLBM's are more than sufficient to counter any threat while remaining on US soil.

If it were up to me, and I could wave a magic wand, each and every nuke on this planet would disappear along with the knowledge to create them.

Nuclear Warhead Analysis
Laicie Heeley, a fellow with the Budgeting for Foreign Affairs and Defense program at the Stimson Center said in 2016:

From a security point of view, it’s a roll of the dice to continue to have approximately 50 of America’s nuclear weapons stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, just 70 miles from the Syrian border. These weapons have zero utility on the European battlefield and today are more of a liability than asset to our NATO allies.

I know there are codes and safeguards to their use, but that is still a tempting target to a country that was once part of the Ottoman Empire that engaged in genocide in regard to the Armenians.

Trump wants to give away more of the farm. And, perhaps, learn how to convert a democratic nation into an authoritarian form of government.
