Vital we withdraw nuclear weapons from Turkey. NATO should administratively cut links to their armed forces. Erdogan an authoritarian threat to his own people and his NATO allies.

Long overdue to give up fiction that Erdogans Turkey is an ally in practice. US should withdraw all nuclear weapons, reduce reliance on Turkeys bases, and restrict intelligence sharing and arms sales. Should also articulate red lines in Syria.

Why should we have those weapons on foreign soil anyway?

(58,666 posts)Now, it has flipped to being an asset for Putin's New Russian Empire.
That being said, we shouldn't have nukes on foreign soil, too much risk of them being hijacked, our ICBM's and SLBM's are more than sufficient to counter any threat while remaining on US soil.
If it were up to me, and I could wave a magic wand, each and every nuke on this planet would disappear along with the knowledge to create them.

Laicie Heeley, a fellow with the Budgeting for Foreign Affairs and Defense program at the Stimson Center said in 2016:
From a security point of view, its a roll of the dice to continue to have approximately 50 of Americas nuclear weapons stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, just 70 miles from the Syrian border. These weapons have zero utility on the European battlefield and today are more of a liability than asset to our NATO allies.
