In America, the most difficult jobs, the hardest jobs to do pay the least.

Have you ever been a waitress or waiter? Have you ever worked in a kitchen? Have you ever been a janitor, or a roofer, or worked in a nursing home?

Have you ever done really hard, physical work for very little pay and no benefits?

Have you ever picked strawberries or lettuce? Or unloaded boxes in a warehouse, or worked at a McDonald's?

Minimum wage is what you get for working these difficult jobs. You make just barely enough to pay the utilities and rent, then there's daycare, gasoline, etc. Minimum wage is something created by the very rich so they wouldn't just pay you 10 cents an hour, or less. In other words, its modern slavery.

mitt romney has literally never worked a day in his life. Not real work. Not hard, physical labor. He never had to. I wonder what thats like. Never having had to work hard for minimum wages while raising 3 kids. I've never in my whole life met anyone who never had to work.

So there's no way a man like romney can relate to a man like me. We are from the same planet, but different worlds. romney is the kind of a guy who will force Americans to work for minimum wage, and then send millions of jobs to India, Taiwan, China and who knows where else so he can pocket EVEN MORE billions. He just never has enough, he always needs more, and hides it all offshore.

I've never been in the 'middle class', I guess I've always been a low class American, just scraping by, just making it, just keeping my head above water, learning how to scrimp, save, learning frugality and simplicity, stretching the budget, and I wonder what might happen to me, and people like me, if romney and the bush people get back in.

Amen! If hard work made people rich, then farm workers would be filthy rich. nt raccoon Sep 2012 #1

my parents were middle class and retired middle class. i had a good job that paid middle class wages until 79-80 when my labor cost was sent to mexico and asia. since then i`ve earned far below what my trade should have paid. now i`m retired with no pension and very little money from social security. my wife still works some 50+ hours a week so we can afford just what we have now.

And as for what will happen if the Repugs get back in, that's an easy one: We will have even more company than we have now, because they will finish off what is left of the middle class.

thank you for saying this so well.

My son had a unit in middle school which discussed "money". It changed my perspective a LOT.

Money is just "the promise of work" or the "fruit of work". It was developed to allow us to exchange our labours with others.

Somewhere along the line the whole thing got messed up.

The concept that Mitt Romney's MONEY was able to 'earn' $20,000,000 in one year, without a single effort on his part, just blows my mind. Is this the best we as the most 'intelligent' beings on the planet can come up with??

we humans, need to really look at the way we are living and ask if it is really "working".
