He is accused of selling without permission a number of ancient fragments to the US arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby. Its owners, the Green family, are prominent Christian evangelicals and, under the guidance of the Hobby Lobby president, Steve Green, were behind the founding of Washingtons $400m Museum of the Bible in 2017.

Commenting after the statement on Monday, Nongbri said: The sale of the manuscripts and the attempt to cover it up by removing records is almost unbelievable. But the first thing to note are the words so far. We dont yet know the full extent of this. More items may well have been sold to Hobby Lobby.

(9,685 posts)Oh would that not be lovely, the Brits sending an extradition order and a warrant. I can see that happening if they don't return them.
Of course the evidence would have to show that they knowingly received stolen goods and it would be ip to our CPS to decide if on a balance of probabilities they would be able to secure a conviction.

(2,065 posts)Who gave them a get out of hell free card. They feel that they're in this cozy little clique of the saved, and everyone else be damned. They think that the usual laws of morals and ethics don't apply to them, just because they made their token profession of faith in Jesus.

(12,132 posts)for often noting that the particular brand of religion we grew up in promotes "Once saved, always saved" - so now, regardless of the fact that I'm an open atheist, heaven gotta take me. I always call it my get out of hell free card.
