was on Fox News saying that the Founding Fathers would not want an impeachment in an election year.

HAHAHAHA
Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 - an election year.
Going back to not long after the Founding Fathers, SCOTUS justice Samuel Chase was impeached in 1804, also an election year. Chase's party controlled the Senate, so the trial was delayed until 1805 and he was acquitted by 1 vote in 1805.

(82,849 posts)Not sure they're getting their money's worth for a charlatan who pretends to channel the framers and poses as an originalist, but comes up with hare-brained legal "thoughts" unsupported by the original text.

(52,344 posts)yeah, the founders would definitely have thought:
"hmm, let's imagine a situation where we've just learned that the president is a tyrant, he's completely inappropriate for the office, he's committed treason, bribery, and high crimes and misdemeanors. he's abusing, misusing, and neglecting the office. let's agree such a tyrant should most certainly be kept in office if an election is held winthin 365 days."
this is completely idiotic. there's absolutely zero chance that they would be saying this if a democratic president was caught jaywalking 3 days before an election. they'd be pulling all-nighters to rush through impeachment if they could.

(23,337 posts)in an election year is getting longer. Im noticing the chyron in the OP that says 2020 Dems rant and rave about impeachment...really? The only ranting and raving being done is by snowflake repukes who are in the crosshairs of the impeachment inquiry. Projection on steroids.

His ideas of the powers of the executive would have been appalling to the Founders and he has no ground to stand on when it comes to claiming to know what they intended. Especially considering most of his opinions read as though he has never once picked up the Federalist papers or even bothered to read the fucking constitution any more that to twist it to his personal views.

(56,829 posts)might have had a grandfather or great grandfather among the Founding Fathers - it was only 81 years from the ratification in 1787 to 1868

(57,647 posts)I spoke to John Yoo shortly before the 2016 election and he called Trump "the classic demagogue described well in the Federalist Papers that our system is designed to stop" based on his disregard for the law. Guess he decided that issue has been solved. http://nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/analysis-vengeful-world-donald-trump-why-it-matters-n671721
