Says Texas 'made a fortune' on Hurricane Harvey

President Donald Trump called a potential coastal spine system to protect Houston and its shipping channels a “crazy thing” and scoffed at the price tag on Thursday.

During his campaign rally at the American Airline Center in Dallas, Trump said he gave billions and billions of dollars already to the state for Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

“You made a fortune on the hurricane,” Trump said of Hurricane Harvey, which devastated Houston and much of Southeast Texas in 2017, killing more than 100 people and destroying or damaging more than 100,000 homes ...

U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher said on Twitter that Trump’s comments are “not a surprise. It is a sign of his lack of empathy, of understanding and interest. He has never bothered to understand what actually happened, or what we need to recover” ...

... Trump’s vision of America — this time, without him as its president — is dark and scary. There’s also a cynical streak to his message, which also was on display when Mulvaney told reporters this as he jetted to Texas: “Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy. … Elections have consequences” ...

To hear the president tell it, the impeachment inquiry — like former Special Counsel Robert Mueller III’s Russia election meddling probe before it — is just part of a never-ending conspiracy to take him down ...

A Trump 2020 campaign official earlier this week made clear the president and his team are building a reelection operation aimed at winning the turnout battle. The official boasted about an increase in voter registrations on the campaign’s website and Republican Party platforms ...

Democratic candidates and lawmakers are betting otherwise, describing to voters a corrupt, out-for-only-himself president who ignores the law and tries to get foreign governments to help him win an election at home. Some Republicans remain confident their turnout-based strategy will work ...

Everything is about money for him. He is completely blind to human suffering and loss.

There are no words in the English language to describe the depths of my hatred for him.

*I* gave billions...”. he says....

No, Donnie Dipshit. Congress appropriated the tax dollars. YOU had nothing to do with it.

And nobody “made a fortune” on their devastating losses, either. But then Donnie Dipshit doesn’t deal in facts. He spews out the lies like diarrhea and his worshipers lap it up.

Like.... if your home is destroyed, and your insurance company pays for $250k to rebuild it.... you didn't "make" $250k. You made $0 and lost all your items of sentimental value to boot.

Donald collected $17 million for "hurricane damage" at mar a lago that never happened.
So he made money off a hurricane and he thinks everyone else is as crooked as he is.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump said he received a $17 million insurance payment in 2005 for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, but The Associated Press found little evidence of such large-scale damage.

Two years after a series of storms, the real estate tycoon said he didn’t know how much had been spent on repairs but acknowledged he pocketed some of the money. Trump transferred funds into his personal accounts, saying that under the terms of his policy, “you didn’t have to reinvest it.”

In a deposition in an unrelated civil lawsuit, Trump said he got the cash from a “very good insurance policy” and cited ongoing work to the historic home.

10. Where's my check?

My check from TWIA was 24K short of what it actually cost to repair my home after Hurricane Harvey. TWIA is the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, which the 14 coastal TX counties (plus a portion of Harris County) are forced to purchase insurance for wind damage (if you have a mortgage.) It's highway robbery. In order to get a home loan, I'm forced to buy both a regular homeowner's policy plus a windstorm policy. The homeowner's policy is $730 per year. Windstorm insurance is a whopping $2200 (that's not a typo) every year, and my home is right at the median price range here.

If you live in the 239 other counties (+the rest of Harris County) and suffer wind damage from a tornado, your homeowner's insurance covers it. If a tornado (which rarely happens here) hits my house, I have to file through TWIA, which has a higher deductible than my homeowner's policy.

There are a lot of Texas homeowners who have to carry 3 policies: Homeowner's, TWIA windstorm, and FEMA flood insurance. (My home is located outside any flood plain.) I can't imagine how much all 3 costs. I dare trump to go to Houston and make that speech.
