Tulsi Gabbard, Anita Hill are still on the bill with the child-caging former Homeland Security chief.By Christina Cauterucci
n a few days, Kirstjen Nielsen, the former secretary of homeland security best known for separating migrant children from their families and detaining them in inhumane conditions, is scheduled to speak at Fortunes Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington.
Hillary Clinton was set to speak at the summit, too. On Friday, however, she removed herself from the event, citing a scheduling conflict.
But a person close to Clintons decision-making process told Slate that she had decided to drop out after hearing that Nielsen was also on the docket. We work with a lot of activists who are trying to do their best to improve this horrible situation down at the border, the person said, citing Clintons support of RAICES and other organizations that advocate for asylees and immigrants. At the end of the day, its an easy decision. You have to side with them.
The person said one of those activists alerted Clinton to Nielsens slot on the schedule earlier this week, after which Clintons team notified Fortune that she would no longer be attending the event. Friday evening, Clintons name and headshot were removed from the summits website.
While theres an argument to be made to hear all voices, there are those who fall outside of what should be the band of acceptable behavior and public policymaking, the person said, describing the actions of Nielsens Department of Homeland Security as one of the most horrific things that weve had to bear witness to within our borders in modern political history.

(31,234 posts)this "administration", and some may even have a conscience, but I feel they should be shunned for agreeing to participate in this farce of a pResidency. People of integrity, who have an intact moral compass, should all decline to give credibility to these folks until & unless they admit publicly, that tRump is an abomination and a cancer on the planet.

(11,316 posts)some "benefit of the doubt" is possible, with some of the people that came on board. I believe Nielson stayed far too long, and was far too complicit to be rendered that courtesy. Nielson's great dilemma was trying to find "legal" ways in which to implement Stephen Miller's ugly anti-law concentration camps. And she kept trying, until the president fired her.
oh .. and another hand to the woman who had the dignity, and depth, to say, "no."

(5,940 posts)I think I saw where a similar post from you in another thread on this topic was misunderstood and hidden. The wording of that post was somewhat unclear, and may have appeared to many as though it was torching Clinton rather than Nielsen.
I'm glad you got a second chance to say this - that Hillary Clinton does indeed deserve applause for taking this stand, and that a "Good German" like Nielsen, who went along with the caging of children, does not deserve to enjoy a respecatable public image.

(90,347 posts)... not even been charged as a child abuser even by Republicans !!
That would be awfully bold for a 50,000 post member to get on a MB and bash an icon openly.
I saw this crap in the last election, people were abusing the alert process but it would be late at night around the time people were sleep.
This looks familiar

(5,940 posts)I had to read the post a couple of times before I understood that it was excoriating Nielsen, and not Clinton. I hope the confusion has been cleared up for the alerters as well.
