Richard Engel: ..."U.S. could one day be held responsible for Crimes Against Humanity..."

US officials tell me ALARM BELL RINGING among diplomats
in DC that U.S. could one day be held responsible for Crimes
Against Humanity for ethnic cleansing of Syrian Kurds by
opening the door to it, watching it, encouraging it (Trump's
tweets and statements) and not stopping it.

Start a couple of decades ago to get rid of "quisling" Rockefeller Republicans, keep it up against anyone who can't "get with the program", who "fraternizes with the enemy", and allow it to snowball year after year after year, and voila!

a willing participant. They also know that Putin had a lot to do with having the idiot become POTUS. When a good Democratic leader takes on the presidency, he/she will restore the dignity of the country and its place in the World. The World knows the majority of USA citizens are good people who like to help, who like to love, and are very decent. Unfortunately, the crap is what makes noise.

People know we have allowed a bad political situation happen, and they know it is one party who has caused all the damage. They will also demand from the Democratic party more strength and faster decision making to fight the problems that will continue to arise from the opposing party.

We have to understand that the mentality of the republican party is corrupt, even their youth are corrupted, so it will take many years to change the current mindset of which the republican youth has adopted as a normal from its parents and politicians. To tell you the truth, I have never thought the republican party to be a party of patriots, from everything I have learned and continue to read, the mindset of the republican party has always been self-serving and unpatriotic. I don't doubt there are and have been very good representatives of that party, we did see it during the Nixon impeachment, but those are few. The worst that has always happened in the USA has been brought by republicans, they have always hated, they have always been racists, misogynists, and seem to have a greater love for money than for country.

Once in a while I read novels and literature written at the beginning of the 1900s, Sinclair Lewis being one of my favourites, and in his novels political ideologies into his characters, and so many times I have had to stop and say "damn, these fuckers haven't changed!" and that is about republicans. They are just masters of bullshit and people who do not read, who love to stay ignorant buy their crap every time.

Once we get rid of the filth in our politics the USA will again come on top, this bad situation will not last and I believe the World knows it, and is anxiously waiting.

I hope you are right about the world knowing this was the doing of a madman, not us. But it may take at least 75-100 years.

But somehow, the US will never be seen the way we once were. I don't say that because its my opinion, its because those are the exact words from European relatives and friends, many of the older who always saw the US as their hero that saved Europe and liberated them and gave them chocolate when they were in their darkest moments. Somehow, even when Trump is finally gone, the stain does remain for a very very long time. Ask any German if they haven't had the German Culture stained by Hitler. They know it has been and even 75 years past, it slowly is getting better but still lingers....and then when its finally improving - then a neonazi in Germany shoots up a synagogue last week and kills two people. And Germans feel it in shame of their past. We too in the US will deal with the repercussions and long memory of what Trump has done. The genocide of Kurds will be on the GOP and Trump forever and sadly, the US.

But let’s be really frank here. Trump has followers who are proof that this country is both the best with the highest ideals and the worst with its greed, corruption and cruelty. If we are to ever mature as a people and as a country we better see who and what we are in full measure. We must stop making ourselves out to be better than other countries who have had much longer histories than we have.

This country has done just as much evil and good as every other country. We are doing it now, not just in some faraway ancient history. We have done it to us from the start from the largest genocide against the Native Americans since Columbus landed to enslaving people to enrich ourselves, to handing the Kurds over for genocide.

If we go back to what we were before Trump that is what we’re going back to.

Like every other country with a dark and ugly underbelly we need to become better, not to go back.

Richard Engel learned Arabic, a language that is damned hard to master, because he got tired of not knowing what was being said in interviews and not always trusting that the interpreter was giving him the actual words of people. In many cases, he was right about the latter. So, he took upon himself the task of learning the language so that he no longer needed a middle man. If you pay close attention, you'll notice that when he speaks to Arabs, he then turns to the camera and tells his audience exactly what he just heard.

Now, THAT is impressive.

If you are...are you kidding?

This guy is a hero, I worry about him, he has a wife and kids and he gets into some of the toughest areas in the World, how he does it I don't know, but I wish he would stop and start working from home.

Like someone else answered..He is a hero. Takes guts to do what he does, and yes he was in Afghanistan, in Iraq in hotels that were being bombed while he was transmitting live news to us, he was on the ground while bullets were going back and forth, again transmitting live to us.

It doesn't take a lot to Google him to get and idea of all he has done, and continues to do.

Because it would open up Pandora's Box for the United States and ALL of it's past present future Presidents to constantly defend against, which would ultimately rip the U.S. apart.

Unfortunately, every time Dems do the right thing to keep the Union strong, the fucking republican party insists on pushing even further with their monkey fucking of everything with their delusional insanity.

Look the same to the world. We need to get authoritarians ,narcissists and sociopaths OUT
Of places of power, the markets, politics, make it so that they can't even call any shots in a psych ward. Rat them out.
Because they are toxic and can't
be given any positions of power or trust. You cannot trust a person with no sense of boundaries and ethics or empathy with power.

He can be super kind and loving for six or seven years, then suddenly snap and turn into a violent asshole who threatens everyone at the table and ultimately has to be tasered into submission. Once a great hero, then an abusive grump, now a threat to the children, his story is bound to end in tragedy one way or the other.

The International Court at the Hague passed resolutions that deemed Cheney, Rumsfeld, and I think Wolfawitz (sp.) to be war criminals. The reason you don't ever see the first two fly to Europe is that they have been warned that their plane could be diverted and they could be taken to the Hague. I doubt that this will ever happen, but there are people who watch the movements of these two, just in case an opportunity ever presented itself.

Some people will always remain vigilant to bring war criminals to justice. Look how many years MOSSAD expended in searching out Nazi war criminals the world over.

There are no treaty obligations between the US and Kurds. No state of war exists, and the US has retaliated economically against Turkey for their actions.

The legal justification for us being in Syria is pretty thin to start with. The Assad government has historically been legally recognized by the UN, and both the UNSC and the UN General Assembly have declined to take action.

The official reason we’re in Syria is to ensure chemical weapons are not used. We essentially involved ourselves in a civil war, and our main state ally in the region, Iraq, is supporting the Syrian government.
