Repugs Will Pretend To Hold A Real Impeachment Trial

The Senate Repugs have absolutely no intention of voting to convict Trump.

It doesn't matter how serious the charges are, or how strong the evidence is. They've already decided among themselves to protect Trump regardless.

But they know that it will look better politically if they pretend to do what's right.

So they will allow the trial to proceed as if it were a real trial and pretend to take it seriously.

But they already know how they will vote.

Right now the current plan is to vote on it without any trial. Just bring it up immediately.

The only (slight) chance at conviction is if McConnell allows the vote to be secret

They had better consider the ramifications and outcome of that biased position.

It is not hard to speculate that, unabated, Trump will destroy the very system that gives them the power as civil servants to make any decisions. This entire country will make a wrenching shift into a new territory that has Fascist, Oligarchical and Theocratic elements.

If they don't get that by now, then they are either implicitly gong along with that, not paying attention to the facts or as ignorant as many of their constituents. This is such a critical and crucial situation that putting Party over country is a matter of cutting off your nose to spite your face and looking forward to a swim in a septic tank.

wanted another candidate to run in 2020, they could do it by kicking trump out of office. Then replace Pence on the ticket. TRump is becoming a liability.

Don't be surprised if the Republicans start to break with Trump. If more and more evidence of his criminality is revealed, the Senate and House Republicans may decide it's in their own self-interest to cover their own behinds if it looks like Trump is more trouble than he's worth.

I never expect those traitors to act in the nation's best interests but the time may come when Trump is too much of an albatross for them to continue with him.

What it will do, since we seem to be at war with them, is bring out enough factual and damning information just prior to the election to paint this president as the fool, crook, con man, that he is.

For a while I thought that we are shoving it down their throats the way they shoved it down Obama’s. Tit for tat. I just figured that we were showing Republicans that we can fight the same fight. But, I was wrong. Trump, the idiot that he truly is, brought this on on his own and deserves all that he is getting.

We may not get the votes from Republicans to impeach and throw the bum out, but we will shape the narrative for the next election.

Removal, too. We know that at this time Moscow Mitch andBarr would sell out their own Mothers for tRump but Mitch and Barr can both be impeached so lets get them out first. Let's go! Public opinion continues to grow in favor of impeachment and that's a powerful force.

McConnell can't be impeached. Theoretically the other senators could vote to expel him from the senate, but that obviously won't happen.

As for Trump, it's highly unlikely that he will resign or be convicted in the impeachment trial. The best chance for his removal before the 2020 election would be a lethal stroke or heart attack.
