Posting on GD because this is political.
There was a message in GOT's ending that we should revisit since there are parallels in a real world. Many of us were unprepared to see Khaleesie, a flaxen beauty, turn into a destructive dragon villain that had to be stopped. And when it happened, it was for Tyrion to explain how it all went bad. He said that each time she put down one of their enemies she was rewarded with their praise, admiration and approval. And when she began to turn her unyielding judgment on known, good people in the kingdom, they still supported her because of her track record. They thought they owed her their support and loyalty. But, as this went on, she began to lose the love of the people.
When Khaleesie realized she could not count on popular support, she decided to rule based on their fear. Finally, her inner circle of counselors realized the only people that were willing to follow her were her own warriors, and the inner circle knew that eventually those soldiers would be used against them. (And I see parallels with the way Trump radicalizes his supporters at those stadium campaign stops, for the same reasons).
It might be a sign of our tendency to stereotype because many of us couldn't believe that someone as beautiful as Khaleesi could turn into such a cruel, unyielding leader, but that makes Lord Acton's quote all the more sobering: "absolute power corrupts absolutely." You give a leader who is losing popularity unfettered approval, and he will rely on his dark side to hold onto power. Eventually his destructive force will eventually become a national security problem.
Thankfully, America has all the proper measures to handle a Mad King. Right now it's Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and Barr who are standing in the way, still providing Trump with the fuel he needs to continue a destructive path. They are most responsible for Trump's destructive legacy of US interest so maybe we should all see them as part of the same kettle of rotten fish.
I think they will all lose their positions of power at roughly the same time.
