@tedlieu
Dear @CongressEthics: My good friend owns a CA beverage company. Can I write a law that gives him a no-bid contract to be the official drink provider for the G-7? Because I'm also from CA.
Just kidding. I'm not massively corrupt like @realDonaldTrump. Nor do I enable corruption.
@JohnJHarwood
quintessential Rubio to understand arguments others make but endorse Doral/G-7 as a Floridian:
I understand arguments others are going to make about whether its lining his pocket and so forth, but as a Floridian, you know, I think its good for FL

(63,221 posts)If they don't want to go to Camp David, fine. But there are still many ideal non-Trump owned properties in this country where the G7 could be held that would not be breaking the emoluments clause. Why is this even being considered? It is such a blatant, money-grubbing scam by this corrupt grifting president. Isn't there anyone who can stop it?

(47,501 posts)the other countries in the G7 would refuse to stay at his property. The bedbugs alone would be good reason.

(63,221 posts)the emoluments clause, the stench of staying at a Trump property, etc. There is just so much wrong with it.
How much is the complete renovation of this place going to cost the taxpayer? This is just infuriating!

(47,501 posts)to do it is mind blowing. He really does believe he can do whatever he wants. Though he is unraveling so quickly, I don't think he has any idea what he is doing anymore.

(7,220 posts)The emoluments clause, also called the foreign emoluments clause, is a provision of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8) that generally prohibits federal officeholders from receiving any gift, payment, or other thing of value from a foreign state or its rulers, officers, or representatives
Doesn't say a thing about it being okay if it's just a DISCOUNTED payment. And what do we think the odds are that Trump will provide a full and accurate accounting of the whole transaction?
