if wealthy Republicans were really serious about people pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, and getting rich by working hard, and getting paid on merit, and all that - um - stuff - if they were for real about that, they would ask - DEMAND - a 100% estate tax. They wouldn't want to deprive their own children of the rewards of making it on one's own.

From FDR till Reagan the top marginal tax rate was 63% to 92%, 91 or 92% every year Eisenhower, a Republican, was in office. People still got rich and it was a period of great middle class growth.

Reagan and Fox News convinced middle class people to be in favor of cutting taxes for multi billionaires and big business. I think some are so dumb they hear of a 85% top marginal tax rate and think it on all a persons or businesses income.
