(19,566 posts)Just like I said at the time. Welcome to politics via reality TV.
BigmanPigman
(51,623 posts)I was watching him in the early morning since it was "live" and even wrote a post asking, "And who will benefit financially from this?". He just wants the money more than a distraction, I believe. I would like to know why he capitalised "Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility..." though. Are Irrational Hostility and Democrat Crazed the names of groups or organizations? And DemocratIC is the correct spelling not Democrat, fucking moron.

(19,566 posts)This last "formal" announcement was extremely suspect to me all the same.
The timing was way off (Syria, and the impeachment investigation) and Mulvaney tossing out the whole, 'yeah, we did it get over it' at the same presser? Nope, I never bought it as being legit. It was supposed to distract us, anger us and derail us from bigger issues. We're better than that though, and the media he's dealing with now is massively larger than the good 'ol days of the Page 6 pool he's used to running in circles.

(31,261 posts)as Pigman pointed out. His businesses are in trouble, it will be no surprise if several go under by the middle of next year. He won't be able to save them by sucking up Russian money this time.
Trump is not cunning, he is corrupt and greedy. Mitch McConnell is cunning and greedy. Without McConnell being able to carry water for him, like on judicial appointments, Trump shoots himself in the foot.

(19,566 posts)It was already sent out as a trial balloon and it flopped. Yes, he wanted it desperately and I think he was going to try again but not like this and definitely not right now. It's way too early considering he already knew it wasn't a popular idea. This was an underhanded bomb delivered in a wacky presser (there was no reason to announce this that way no matter when they chose to) where all kinds of batshit stuff was said. Ask yourself why it was ever handled that way at this moment in time? Why?
Several Republicans already were "concerned" when he said it earlier, but he misgauged just how damaging his stunt was on even seemingly safe seats. The last thing they need is one more senate seat in play in 2020.

(19,204 posts)wait until he's removed from office in total, abject disgrace. The "Trump Brand" won't be worth won't be worth a plugged nickel. Look out for bankruptcy number six, it's on it's way. There's goes the inheritance his kids were counting on to get through life without ever having to hold a real job.

(51,623 posts)I heard that is why he does it, it sounds like the Dems are "rats". The thing is that he was listed as a Dem and so were Ivanka and Jared until he ran for office. It even said so on their Wikipedia bios. He is a transparent, self serving fraud. He really did want to cash in on the G7. He figures he can get away with anything so why not at least try. He will keep trying this crap until he is gone. No knows no shame.
SMC22307
(8,090 posts)Yeah, the "rat" thing, too. One of my dumbass neighbors thinks he's clever when he uses it.
I'm still not convinced the ultimate grifter isn't going to cash in somehow, but here's hoping!

(31,261 posts)Without help from people who are like Putin and McConnell, Trump stumbles into blunder after blunder.
My bet where the G7 will be held now, Camp David, and Putin won't be invited. He will take too much heat for any other choice and with cover provided by republicans fracturing, Trump won't go against that heat.
SuprstitionAintthWay
(386 posts)He's been scalded on both of his moronic G-7 "ideas."
And he knows that if he's even still president then he's gonna need every photo opp he can get with other, real world leaders.
So he's caved in. Whatever will get the other six here, he'll do.

(19,566 posts)Watch the actual presser and then say that to me with a straight face. It was full on a channeling of P. T. Barnum.
Then go back and look where Republicans questioned this when Trump first proposed it, and then how the house judiciary committee was already looking into if this was even legal since way back then. Again, reference the actual presser and watch Mulvaney pretend to be surprised at the suggestion it would be investigated. His reason was something like, you'd think the Democrats would be too busy what with the impeachment and all. There was already an investigation as to if such would be legal from the last summit when he mentioned it.
It was total low end theater and a distraction.
I'm editing to add, it also blew up on Trump because Republicans feet were being held to to fire locally. He knew they were in jeopardy but didn't care when he played this hand. It wasn't until they started reaching out to their chamber leaders about how bad the optics were for them that he relented.
Literally, he was tossing several Republicans under his bus to distract from his bad news cycle assuming they'd still have his back because he has clout with their chamber leaders. He miscalculated.

And like always tweeted it with getting a feel for the pushback.
Both by republicans and more importantly G7 members who probably sent out subtle message that they would not attend. Trump is hated in every G7 nation and no leader of them can be seen as pandering to his pocketbook.
