I wish that Trump hadn't caved on Doral

Yes caving so quickly after his original announcement makes Trump look weak. But it mostly salvages what could have been a much worse situation for him. There are several reasons for this:

-- His attempt to host the G-7 at his own property is such an obvious act of self-aggrandisement -- so obvious that most of the public will easily see it.

-- It would be such a clear violation of the constitution. The democrats would include it as an article of impeachment, and the Repugs would find it very difficult to argue against it.

-- Because Trump has caved, the story will quickly fade from the news cycle. If he hadn't caved, it would stay in the news throughout the impeachment process, and also re-surface again as the time for the G-7 approaches next year.

especially since it was being held on his property. Once Putin was on the property, Fat Donnie would have been relentless in his efforts to get him readmitted.

If the meeting is held at Camp David (which he'll first want to name after himself, since "Why would anyone name something after their grandson?&quot , Trump will have a harder time justifying having Putin on the grounds.

Although Trump seems to be doing his whiny best to keep bringing it up. On the other hand, just because Trump wasn't successful in plundering the Treasury (that we know of, in this particular instance), it doesn't mean he's not guilty of a crime, just bad at trying to do a crime. Someone walks into a bank with a hold up note and slips it to the teller, then, seeing all the security guards standing around, asks the teller to give him back his note. That's why some crimes like murder or robbery are distinguished as "attempted." Just because the criminal didn't kill his victim or make off with his wallet doesn't mean he didn't commit a crime.

He doesn't know the limits of the law. He is inclined to ignore boundaries. He seems to believe it is legal so long as he is not caught. He has a conscience of guilt. That is why he commits most of his questionable or illegal activities in broad daylight.
