Mitt Romney is making a play

The GOP is looking for a way to get their man elected. His objections to Trump are simply a ploy to set him up for the 2020 election. Once Trump is ousted, he's in position to boast that he was the one that objected to the demon Trump.

Romney need not be president.

Romney = Bush (either one) = McCain = Nixon = Trump = the next Republican nominee or president

Styles may be different but they are all the same.

Cuz, in 2020 Mitt will lose the TrumpChumps who will morph into the Never Mitters! Thus ending GOP has a cohesive electoral force.

8. White Horse Prophecy
Wed Oct 23, 2019, 10:05 PM
Oct 2019

If the GOP does ditch Trump, and Romney plays a key role in that, it will be interesting to see how the evangelicals react in light of the question of whether or not a Mormon prophecy is valid and coming true. Romney will down-play it, of course, because there is no upside for him in poking at them, but other Mormons won't be so quiet, and that might make other fundies rather uncomfortable.

but like anything theological it is much, much messier.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Horse_Prophecy

Anyhow, Romney has distanced himself from it in exactly the way one would expect a smarmy, calculating, disingenuous politician to do so. Mormons, and moreso ex-Mormons, confirm that despite the official position that this is not LDS Church doctrine anymore, it is still widely taught and believed -- but also taught NOT TO TALK ABOUT IT TO OUTSIDERS.

So my curiosity/question is regarding this: how will evangelicals/fundie Xians react to the prospect of Romney being the post-Trump GOP savior/figurehead when the context is that supporting Romney would be an affirmation of a Mormon prophecy, the fulfillment of which would lend credence to the notion that it was a true prophecy and Mormonism is true. Do they care more about their fundie Xianity or their GOP fealty?

More of a faith promoting rumor.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Horse_Prophecy

Smith's supposed original statement predicts that the US Constitution will one day "hang like a thread" but be saved by Latter-day Saints. The embellished version portrays it to be "by the efforts of the White Horse."

Here is a reddit thread where this very question is addressed:

https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/y2hto/white_horse_prophecy_is_it_really_a_thing/

As you can see, results vary, but everyone else did not have your experience.

Likewise, there are also a shit-load of articles, podcasts, blogs, you tube videos and the like about this from ex-Mo's and never-Mo's which contain eyewitness evidence from people who were taught that this was true.

My family goes all the way back to the beginning. Yes you can find people talking about it but I can 99% guarantee you would never hear about it in official Church publications or lessons or over the pulpit. Many of those on Reddit are repeating things that were faith promoting rumors in Utah or new information they just discovered.

Martin Harris was my 4th great grandfather and one of my others was Brigham Young’s personal secretary (and first British convert). No one in my family would claim the white horse prophecy is doctrine or that it’s taught in the current church.

You're still hung up on your experience, and discounting what other people experience and testify to.

But whatever, for the purposes of furthering the convo, let's assume that there's No True White-Horseman.

Even if you want to say those eyewitnesses are lying, or exaggerating, or misguided, or ignorant, or whatever, none of that is relevant to the point that these people *say these things publicly* -- and I ain't the only person who has heard them. Evangelicals hear this stuff too.

So back to my original question/point: how are the evangelicals going to react to an LDS coming in and playing the hero when the Constitution is hanging by a thread, in the context of this totally-not-a-prophecy-nor-widely-believed-yet-definitely-out-there-in-the-media thing?

Which in this case means Trump. Trump is already doing his best to smear Romney to the point he's despised by his base. He's livid at the thought of Romney being his successor.

for many in the middle, and it is between a far left candidate and Romney, Romney may very well win. I am left of center and I find myself thinking” what was so awful about Romney?” Simply because T is such an outrage in every sense of the word. How would center and center right people vote?
