...none of them are in public office.

I've encountered a few in recent months. I disagree with them on nearly everything, but they're principled and willing to discuss facts. And they're all aghast at the abomination in charge of their party.

Most no longer actually identify as Republicans. To them, the term is almost a pejorative. And I actually suspect that's why Trump keeps seeing such high approval ratings from Republicans; eventually, Republicans who don't approve of him start calling themselves independents.
