Kate Brannen ✔ @K8brannen (Editorial director at @just_security)
Defying a Pentagon directive not to testify and outlasting the SCIF stunt, Laura Cooper the deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia testified for more than three hours yesterday
From what I've heard, her testimony confirmed a lot of what other witnesses have told House investigators:
1. There was unanimous support from Trump's Cabinet and the interagency to supply Ukraine with security assistance. But the White House withheld it anyway.
2. Providing security assistance to Ukraine is in the interests of the United States. Withholding it is not.
3. She was made aware of a quid pro quo between the security assistance and a commitment from Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.
According to a source familiar with her testimony, Cooper also said that DOD had made it clear to the White House that by withholding funds without congressional authorization, it was at risk of violating the law.

If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell

It's time for them all to go. No more republicans. SHAME!

The "Law and Order" party indeed.
Remember Dump's inane blathering about "law and order" at one of his debates with HRC? Something to the effect of "what she's trying to avoid, are the words LAW AND ORDER, and that's what we're going to insist on" or something like that. Anyway I thought it was odd at the time (but, what coming from his cake-hole isn't?).

(4,426 posts)And pass them.
The willful lawbreaking by Trump is quite clear, and that presents a problem for the GOP Senate. If national polls begin to show a clear trend favoring conviction and removal, McConnell may elect to pull the plug.
He has dealt with a Democratic House and a Democratic President before, but if he loses the Senate or even his own seat, he is done. He will throw Trump under the bus if he thinks that is likely to happen.
