Lindsey Graham introduces resolution condemning House impeachment process

Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced a resolution today condemning the process of the House impeachment inquiry.

The resolution, co-sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, calls on the House to hold a vote to initiate the inquiry, so House Republicans can participate in proceedings and President Trump can call witnesses, Graham tweeted.

“I have introduced a resolution today with Senator McConnell and the purpose of the resolution is to let the House know that the process you’re engaging in regarding the attempted impeachment of President Trump is out of bounds, is inconsistent with due process as we know it …. and is a substantial deviation from what the House has done in the past regarding impeachment of other presidents.” Graham said at a press conference today on Capitol Hill.

CNN’s Lauren Fox pressed Graham on whether he is confident that the Hill and the White House are on the same page when it comes to impeachment messaging and whether the Hill is leading the messaging strategy.

1. This is a big fat lie - "is inconsistent with due process as we know it"

Also, I heard on tv last night that about 1/3 of the Republican congress members are in those "secret" meetings and have equal time to ask questions.

there are republicans on the committees. Republicans made the "new" rules when they were in charge to NOT let in anyone on on those committees, no exceptions.

Is he really that stupid to think the House will bow down to his demands? This is all kissing up to trump, plain and simple. Lindsay is scared shitless that trump will produce some pretty bad shit that Lindsay has done, and trump is holding that over his head. Same goes for all the other diehard supporters of trump, they are all compromised in one way or another.

7. I hope the senate votes on this and expose how truly stupid Republican senators are

This is like Republicans writing ads for us.

I can almost hear the ads here in Iowa:

"Joni Ernst is so ignorant of our own constitution that she voted for Lindsey Graham's bill that called the constitutional process for impeachment out of bounds.
Ernst has been in the senate for 6 years. Isn't it about time she reads the constitution? Let's give her all the time in the world to do that."

this is exactly what republicans do time and time again...

denigrate a legal process when they can't control it.

9. The corrupt AG Barr would not investigate the whistleblower complaint

The whistleblower approached the House.

For Nixon and Clinton impeachments, a special counsel/prosecutor got appointed and they investigated behind closed doors until they produced a report. That is what the House is doing now because AG Barr would not do his job. And they're doing it according to rules the Republicans developed and signed off on in 2015 - which allows both parties to question those coming before it.

The police or law enforcement do not have public hearings while they're investigating a case. They do it behind closed doors. The House is operating similarly - like they did with Benghazi.

When it is time to have open hearings, that is a different matter and they'll follow what was done during the Clinton (& to whatever extent, the Nixon) impeachment process.

All stunts like this or the one yesterday are designed to do is to take the public eye off the damning facts these inquiries are revealing.

house. We're very sorry they think their own rules they wrote are unfair. Perhaps, they'll write more fair rules in the future...
