GSA served supboena for dox related to Trump Int'l Hotel and Old Post Office building

https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/24/trump-hotel-gsa-subpoena-056799

The chairman of the House committee with jurisdiction over federal buildings subpoenaed the General Services Administration today for documents related to the federal lease for the Trump International Hotel, after they weren't produced voluntarily.

The subpoena, issued by Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), chairman of the House Transportation Committee, asks for all of the documents requested in a January letter, which include legal records, communications between GSA and President Donald Trump and his children and profit statements for the hotel.

Democrats have argued that because the Old Post Office building's lease prohibits elected officials from benefiting, and President Donald Trump has not separated himself from his investments, he has breached the lease's terms and may be violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.

“Political appointees at the GSA are trying to hide behind a pathetic excuse that Congress — a co-equal branch of the Federal government tasked with conducting oversight — can’t have key documents regarding a federally-owned property currently leased by the President," DeFazio said in a statement accompanying his subpoena. "That’s absolutely outrageous and should not hold up in a court of law."
