(58,666 posts)The Freedom Caucus drove the Repubs farther to the libertarian right.
JDs are trying to drive the Dem Party farther to the social democratic left. While the country needs to move farther left, I can't help but feel that the JDs are weakening the Democratic Party, and will enable more Repubs to win. They should concentrate on red/purple districts and run candidates there.

(67,782 posts)....is a PAC who takes on incumbent Democrats for one reason or another.
Justice Democrats' record with their endorsements is 7 for 79 (under 9%). Of those seven, three were incumbents in strong blue districts and one ran unopposed.

(61,650 posts)Their stated objective - which is quite consistent - is to destroy the Democratic Party and replace it with a vaguely defined "socialist" revolution.
Their plans to burn down the Democratic Party are well defined. Plans to build something in its place, not so clear. Details.

(297,304 posts)I look forward to running in 2020 and serving the people of Ohios 3rd Congressional District, Beatty says. Throughout my entire life, both personally and professionally, I have fought for better jobs, better wages, and a brighter future for the peopleand I promise to continue do so each and every day here in Central Ohio and in Congress.

(25,537 posts)I watched clips of other congresswomen during the Zuckerberg hearing, wasn't that impressed with some of them. But Beatty was incredible, she turned him into a little boy who doesn't do his homework. I'm very impressed!

justice dems backed one of her opponents in the primary and they lost.. they also backed Gov Gretchen Whitmer's opponent and he lost.
jd backed Lacy Clay's opponent in 2018 and she lost!
May the same happen to Rep Joyce Beatty's challenger.

(5,126 posts)I went and looked at her website. She seems to have a compelling story and an impressive resume. She also seems like someone that could be an asset to the Ohio Dem party as a whole (not as a replacement for Joyce Beatty). I hope chairman Pepper reaches out to her. She might do better in a local race and working for the Presidential candidate in 2020.
I don't think primary challenges especially in safe blue districts are necessarily a bad thing. It forces the incumbent to campaign. She could excite a younger crowd of voters and increase voter registrations. The contested primary could also get divisive and depress voter turnout.
