Unhinged: transcript of Kellyanne Conway's call to the Washington Examiner

This is a transcript of the telephone conversation between Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president of the United States, and Caitlin Yilek, breaking news reporter at the Washington Examiner. The conversation took place after Yilek returned a phone call from Tom Joannou, special assistant to the president and special assistant to the senior counselor.

I can't even begin to summarize this, and no single quote can do it justice. This is unhinged. And absolutely savage on the Examiner's part to decide that Conway's assistant's request for the call to be off the record did not apply once a third party (Conway herself) entered the call.

This woman is not well.

(Obligatory warning: the Examiner is Philip Anschutz's ultra-far-right rag; even they decided this was worth burning Conway as a future source.)

Conway: Um, yes, so, always, right, exactly. You’re really going places. Let me tell you something, from a powerful woman. Don’t pull the crap where you’re trying to undercut another woman based on who she’s married to. He gets his power through me, if you haven’t noticed. Not the other way around. And if these are the, quote, standards, unquote, at the Washington Examiner, then yes, I’d be happy to talk to your editor. But I’ve known your editor since before you were born. So, I can call your editor either way. I’m just trying to give you a chance to explain why you think what you wrote qualifies as breaking news or reporting.

DiNatale, who died in 1983, was named 26 times in a New Jersey Organized Crime Commission report, mainly for providing an alibi for Philadelphia mob boss Nicodemo 'Little Nicky' Scarfo and two associates who were suspected of the December 1979 gangland murder of Vincent Falcone.

what Trump does. Talk talk talk. Talk over the person. Insult the person. Try to intimidate the person.

But you can hear edges of uncertainty in there. She wouldn't have to speak like that if she truly felt powerful.

This puts lie to the popular fanfic that she's a decent person who is trying to out Trump with her husband. She wants what she considers power and to intimidate people. And that's it.

She is so low.

Not any more, it seems. Now she thinks the best use of her time in the White House, on the public payroll, is to phone up reporters (weirdly, calls from the White House show up as coming from Egypt ...) and chew them out for having the temerity to mention her husband, one of the best known Never Trump Republicans that he has called "human scum". And not just a "why did you mention him?" - a full blown "don't you know who I am - A Very Important Person, and you're a nothing, who'll never get anywhere".
