"A hunting trip went seriously wrong earlier this week when one man was attacked by his own downed target.

Thomas Alexander, 66, was on the hunt on Tuesday night in Yellville, Arkansas, when the buck he thought he’d shot to death returned to its feet, stabbing Alexander with its antlers before running away, according to multiple reports."....(more)

Texas man shoots at armadillo, wounded by ricochet

A lonely East Texas highway at 3 a.m., a man with a gun, an armadillo.

What could go wrong?

Only a head wound -- to the gunman, KLTV reports.

The Cass County Sheriff said the motorist told deputies he was shooting at the armored little mammal in the wee hours Thursday on state Highway 77, near Marietta, south of Texarkana. A bullet ricocheted off the creature, striking him in the head.

The unidentified marksman was treated at a local hospital for a minor wound. No word on the fate of the armadillo or the type of gun used.

Also, don't approach big wild animals -- whether clearly alive/obviously wounded/possibly dead -- with pointy head-thingies unless you want to get exceedingly intimate with the pointy head-thingies. If you aren't down with that outcome, don't go down that road. It's really easy to not do stuff, maybe try that out instead.

8. I don't hunt, but I eat meat.

The meat I eat is conveniently packaged for me at the grocers, some of which likely buy from notoriously cruel beef and poultry producers. From their bloody hands to my table.

I presume this guy was hunting for food, not sport. There is a HUGE difference between some hunting (killing) for sport and someone hunting for food, so I hope my fellow meat eaters are not cheering this guys death as some sort of “win.” On it’s face, it’s a tragedy.

9. I don't hunt, but I know a lot of people who do. They eat what they kill.

Whether this man was hunting for food or trophies, chances are That the meat would have been processed for consumption. Some people don't like that idea, but if you buy meat to eat, just remember, someone had to kill it before it was packaged and sold.

In my part of the country, the natural predators have been eliminated and the deer population has exploded which leaves many of them susceptible to starvation and disease.

We also have a problem with feral hogs which are very destructive to wildlife and habitat. Hunting and trapping are encouraged and don't even put a dent in the population.

The meat from these animals is delicious when properly prepared. When you think about it, it's all natural, free range, grown without hormones or antibiotics.

By the arrogant attitude some humans take to animals, reptiles, insects....

As if they didn't have a right to a small patch of the planet....

14. I saw a jolly hunter

I saw a jolly hunter
With a jolly gun
Walking in the country
In the jolly sun.

In the jolly meadow
Sat a jolly hare.
Saw the jolly hunter.
Took jolly care.

Hunter jolly eager-
Sight of jolly prey.
Forgot gun pointing
Wrong jolly way.

Jolly hunter jolly head
Over heels gone.
Jolly old safety catch
Not jolly on.

Bang went the jolly gun.
Hunter jolly dead.
Jolly hare got clean away.
Jolly good, I said.
