Republican senators fear President Trump and their party are losing the public opinion fight over impeachment.
Many in the GOP think House Democrats are playing politics with impeachment and that Trumps actions dont merit impeachment. They also think the media is biased against the White House and the president.
All the same, they think theyre losing the public battle, and that Trumps lack of discipline is hurting them.
Does he need to be so unhinged? He says the dumbest things, said one Republican senator who vented frustration with the presidents outbursts on Twitter and in front of the White House press corps.
Yeah, there needs to be a coordinated response to everything. There needs to be a coordinated effort to just shut up, the senator said.

Its notable that while 44 Senate Republicans on Thursday signed on to the resolution, nine other GOP senators did not: Collins, Gardner, Sen. Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah), Sen. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Sen. Johnny Isakson (Ga.) and Sen. Mike Enzi (Wyo.).

(16,863 posts)Is that people are viewing this as a "fight".
Yes, it is a fight in that we are fighting for the values of our constitution, but these people are so caught up in the "us vs them" nonsense they can't help but see the impeachment as such and that is why they see this as a losing fight. They are losing because they are on the wrong side of history. This isn't a fight of Dems vs Trump...this is a fight for the soul of our country.
Somewhere along the line, this became an "us vs. them" with no regard to facts and what's right and what's wrong.
During the last presidential campaign, I saw a woman on television who actually said that she was going to vote for a certain Republican candidate in the primaries, but then saw that Conald was ahead in the polls so she was going to vote for him.......BECAUSE he was ahead in the polls. She was completely ignorant about the process. She just wanted to be on the winning "team".
A whole lot of people pay absolutely no attention to what's going on, and put no effort into educating themselves. They lose all objectivity. SMH
