Malcolm Nance: "It could incite civil unrest...the ultimate distraction to help steal an election"

Malcolm Nance ✔ @MalcolmNance

WARNING: I heard a DC rumor fm a close Trump source in May 2017 he wanted to charge Obama, Biden, Brennen & Clinton w/treason over Russia. Now with Barr as AG this may be crazy but viable. It could incite civil unrest...the ultimate distraction to help steal an election. #Standby

Barbara Malmet @ B52Malmet

This is the next level bs conspiracy theory Barr is gonna now sell to the American people- that it was the Obama administration which set up the whole “Russia thing” - they want to hang this on OBAMA. Barr going around the world trying to get other countries to back this up.

Republicans have been stealing votes one way or another for years. Just Google the 2004 race for Bush and the Diebold machines. Voting machines are easily hacked, AND they are programmed by the manufacturer. The CEOs of some manufacturers are long-time Republican donors. Not hard to imagine a thumb on the scale in some races. 2020 will be one of those.

Fintan O’Toole: Trial runs for fascism are in full flow
Babies in cages were no ‘mistake’ by Trump but test-marketing for barbarism

Tue, Jun 26, 2018, 05:00
by Fintan O’Toole

https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/fintan-o-toole-trial-runs-for-fascism-are-in-full-flow-1.3543375

Fascism doesn’t arise suddenly in an existing democracy. It is not easy to get people to give up their ideas of freedom and civility. You have to do trial runs that, if they are done well, serve two purposes. They get people used to something they may initially recoil from; and they allow you to refine and calibrate. This is what is happening now and we would be fools not to see it.

One of the basic tools of fascism is the rigging of elections – we’ve seen that trialled in the election of Trump, in the Brexit referendum and (less successfully) in the French presidential elections. Another is the generation of tribal identities, the division of society into mutually exclusive polarities. Fascism does not need a majority – it typically comes to power with about 40 per cent support and then uses control and intimidation to consolidate that power. So it doesn’t matter if most people hate you, as long as your 40 per cent is fanatically committed. That’s been tested out too. And fascism of course needs a propaganda machine so effective that it creates for its followers a universe of “alternative facts” impervious to unwanted realities. Again, the testing for this is very far advanced.

HIS BASE has the vast majority of civilian weaponry in this country, and he is giving them tacit permission.

Just as an example: when a domestic terrorist opens fire on a gay dance club, that terrorist is outnumbered by peaceful people many times over, but they are still all dead at the end.

Trump approves of violence in his name. If an insurrection starts it will be among "his people." They will lose in the end, but in the meantime a lot of the rest of us will die.

The Justice Dept is part of the Executive Branch. Maybe it is time for Mr Barr to appear before the House Intel Committee and explain himself. It can be closed door, open door, or in a hot air balloon. It doesn't matter. If he doesn't volunteer to come, subpoena him. He is still under the oversight of the US Congress.

This is just more of Trump's projection. He knows he'll probably be arrested after he leaves office, so Trump is trying to preemptively do the same thing to Obama, so he can argue his arrest is just political payback.

Fri Oct 25, 2019, 10:00 AM
Oct 2019

Trump's call wasn't just about drumming up dirt on BIden, it was about exonerating Russia for 2016 election interference. If they can make a case that there's any "there" there, then it could, maybe, turn public opinion about the impeachment inquiry

Otherwise why did Barr SUDDENLY decide this Russia investigation-origin story was top priority at the exact same time that the impeachment inquiry witnesses stories were shocking the nation?

It's both a distraction and an attempt to stop the impeachment process, which is otherwise all but assured.

It's a hail Mary.

Either the elections will be cancelled or he will end up the only candidate for president, and only members of the republican party will be allowed to run. Most will sit back with a wait and see attitude, some will see the situation for what it is will understand it and will take whatever action they need right now to protect themselves. Friends, not to be fatalistic, but the republic has already fallen.
