The Trump Organization is exploring a sale of the rights to its highly-controversial Washington, D.C. hotel, a stunning move given how much the president brags about the property. The Wall Street Journal reports the Trumps are looking at a price tag of about a half-billion dollars, or $2 million per room.
People are objecting to us making so much money on the hotel, and therefore we may be willing to sell, vice president Eric Trump claimed in a statement.
Since we opened our doors, the presidents middle son added, we have received tremendous interest in this hotel and as real-estate developers, we are always willing to explore our options.
Legal and constitutional experts have repeatedly said Trumps ownership of the prominent D.C. hotel, which sits in the Old Post Office, a building the Trump Organization leases from the federal government, is a violation of the Emoluments Clause.

(12,712 posts)It will eventually all be over. I do appreciate your inherited sense of boisterous overconfidence, but it is a bit late for that and if you are attempting to do some PR here, (which I would expect) that's not really going to be convincing, you slimy piece of rat shit and a whole lot of expletives to go with it.
I would hope that the shady deals you "developers" do will be more of an incentive to avoid your racket, though. It is a wise business decision to steer clear of the dirty deals of Trump Pump, Inc.
Take your company to hell with you and your family, thank you. And I don't like to do ad homium attacks, but you may actually be far more repulsive to look at than your demon sire, spawn boy. You know, some major plastic surgery wouldn't set you back that much, but at least you are good to go once a year and Halloween is near! Trick or Treat ya' bastid!

(10,749 posts)Sure, it's controversial, but if it's making money, you don't sell it.
So. . . it's not making money.
From 2015 - https://www.hotel-online.com/press_releases/release/us-hotels-selling-at-record-highs-with-average-selling-price-per-room/ - average selling price per room is $165,000. Add 5% per year since 2015 (just for grins) and then triple it for luxury hotels, and you're still only at $600,000 per room selling price. So $2 million per room? I'm not in the hotel biz, but recovering that money has to take a while.
So. . . they're talking ridiculous numbers.
Then we have prospective buyers. We're probably talking Qatar or Saudi Arabia or Russia, or something along those lines, so we're probably talking about money laundering or, more likely, just outright buying a president in plain sight.
So. . . that's an issue.
And if it's a legitimate buyer paying a reasonable price, whatever that may be, they have to factor in the costs of rebuilding the brand of that particular property and cleanse it of the vile name and its equally vile reputation as a hotbed of conflict of interest corruption.
And, then, finally (at least for this post), you have to consider the likelihood - especially if the buyer is Qatar/Saudi/Russia/etc - that there will be a side deal that continues to funnel money to trump mob family for years to come.
And all of this assumes that this is even true or yet another distraction.

(5,586 posts)Ideal location, luxury accommodations, historic building, pompous owner - all checks. I mean, if Trump can do one single thing, it's provide a luxurious hotel experience. And it literally is one of the best locations for a hotel in the city.
That being said, if they're anticipating a revenue drop should Trump lose the election, the hotel will drop in value. For potential buyers, Trump winning the election would be a point in favor of the property. A hotel in this location will be successful almost no matter what, and that's a bet even Trump couldn't lose; but being able to trade on the Trump name in the Trump administration could bring in a premium offer from the right buyer.

Or maybe he just really needs the money.
